Friends of EcoPark Scheme Converging Efforts in Pursuit of Building a Sustainable City [Hong Kong, 19 December 2017] Supports and participations by all sectors of the society are vital important for making Hong Kong a sustainable city. Launched by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) in 2010, the Friends of EcoPark scheme aims to encourage the EcoPark tenants extend their waste sourcing and collection network and promote their recycled products by fostering partnership between the private and public sectors and EcoPark tenants. The 2017 "Friends of EcoPark" Award Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 19 December 2017 (Tuesday) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to honor a total of 218 organisations from both the public and private sectors in recognition of their support for EcoPark tenants and to encourage further collaboration to enhance the local recycling industry. The awarded companies and organisations comprise a wide range of businesses in sectors including hotels, catering, engineering, logistics, retail, cleansing and property management, as well as a number of organisations from the public sector. Representatives from awardees and EcoPark tenants, namely Swire Properties Limited, and Hong Kong Biomass (Wood) Collect and Recycle Limited, were invited to share how the scheme helped the business sector to achieve their environmental targets as well as the challenges and opportunities faced by local recycling industry. The EPD and EcoPark Management Office will make every endeavor to assist tenants recycling businesses of the and, through the Scheme, motivate more partnership initiatives between public sectors, private sectors and the EcoPark tenants in pursuit of a sustainable city.
