HURA HOUSING A self-help housing area for governmental employees in Manila, Philippines. The power of people to organize and trust themselves and each other is stronger than that of any political decision maker. In urban poor communities, a lot can be achieved if people get assistance to organize themselves, define goals, receive knowledge about their basic human rights and receive training in local materials and building traditions. Urban poor communities many times lack economic abilities, but providing money in cash is not a sustainable solution for these communities.instead participation, cooperation and long term thinking can be introduced in the development process of urban poor communities. It is more powerful to create an enabling environment for these communities for them to fulfil their own goals and develop their communities. A cooperative and community driven approach strengthens the sense of ownership, which is a prerequisite for long-term sustainability across sectors. louise aurell ABAN 1: URBAN SHELTER MAIN AIMS WITH THIS PROJECT: - DESIGN FOR A GREAT SOCIAL COMFORT FOR THE RESIDENTS. - REACH A HIGH LIVEL OF PARTI- CIPATION CONCERNING BOTH PRODUCTION AND MAINTENANCE.
