NSPE Kodi Jean Verhalen, P.E., Esq., F.NSPE is President-elect of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). She will serve as NSPE President in 2016-2017, the youngest Professional Engineer and only the third woman to advance in this position since the Society s founding in 1934. Ms. Verhalen is an associate in the Energy Section at the law firm of Briggs and Morgan, P.A where she works with many Professional Engineers, Engineers-in-Training, and engineers on large energy infrastructure projects both from a regulatory and an environmental perspective. Ms. Verhalen received a BS with honors in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and a Juris Doctor cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. Schwartz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the SUNY Buffalo and a Juris Doctor degree from the American University/Washington College of Law. Schwartz is a member of the American Bar Association, as well as the District of Columbia, Florida, and Virginia Bar Associations. Schwartz writes both an ethics column and a legal column in NSPE s monthly publication, PE magazine, and has authored more than 400 published ethics decisions and has written dozens of articles and papers. 10:00-10:15 Break 10:15-11:45 Jim Lenahan, EDFP, LLC: Marketing 101 for Engineers & Inspectors Jim Lenahan, EDFP is an independent business development consultant representing non-competing firms in the AEC (architectural, engineering, construction) industry. His career includes previous positions as Business Development Director for major international architectural, engineering and construction firms. He began his consulting practice in 2005. Lenahan has over 20 years of business development experience in the AEC industry. Prior to joining the private sector, Jim was a Senior Project Manager for the GA Dept. of Economic Development recruiting international and domestic business and industry to the state. Lenahan has significant experience with community nonprofits, trade associations and public sector authorities, including Downtown Development Authorities, Development Authorities and Water Authorities. He received EDFP Certification as an Economic Development Financing Professional from the National Development Council. Theodore TSML Sigman M E M O R I A L L E C T U R E 12:45-2:15 Theodore Sigman Memorial Lecturer: Mo Ehsani, Ph. D, PE, SE: Quake Wrap, etc. Dr. Ehsani received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan before joining the department of Civil Engineering at the University of Arizona in 1982. He pioneered the field of repair and retrofit of civil structures with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials. Dr. Ehsani is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (FASCE) and the American Concrete Institute (FACI). He has served as President of the Structural Engineers Association of Arizona and he is a registered professional engineer in several states. Professor Ehsani has been featured on major media such as CNN, National Public Radio, the History Channel, and Engineering News Record for his expertise on strengthening of structures, particularly related to earthquakes, terrorist attacks and other potential structural disasters. He leads the team on IMI s Masonry Detailing Series (www. masonrydetails.org), and is currently on the board of the Chicago Chapter Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and on the Education Advisory Council of the Association of Licensed Architects (ALA).
