Page 7 Social Skills Workshop On Friday 11 November, Compeer hosted a Social Skills workshop at Dooley s Catholic Club in Lidcombe. The topic of this interactive workshop was Strategies for Starting and Maintaining Conversations. In part one of the workshop, we discussed the right time, right place and most appropriate topics for small talk and how to use icebreakers. In part two, we looked at ways to sustain a conversation past small talk and how to keep a conversation going. There were many opportunities to ask questions, engage in role plays, scenarios and practise our skills during the breaks and it was great to see everyone get involved. A big thank you to Helen, the workshop facilitator; Dooley s Catholic Club; and most of all, to the 13 participants who made the day a resounding success! Feedback: The presentation was well prepared and easy to follow. I enjoyed the mix of theory and practical sessions. 100% of attendees reported satisfaction with the workshop* (*Findings are based on feedback from evaluation forms) Compeer will be holding workshops on different topics in the new year. In the next edition of our newsletter, we will be providing you with the opportunity to tell us what you d like to see at the next workshop, so watch this space
