Aszure Barton & Artists est un organisme qui se consacre au développement d artistes et à la production de spectacles en danse contemporaine. Fondé en 2002 et situé à New York, Aszure Barton & Artists a, depuis, déployé ses activités pour devenir un espace de production de projets internationaux en danse contemporaine. Aszure Barton a acquis une réputation enviable en produisant de puissantes chorégraphies pour la scène et le cinéma. Parallèlement à ces projets, elle continue de produire avec sa propre troupe des œuvres saluées par la critique internationale. Ses pièces ont fait l objet de tournées en Europe, en Asie, en Afrique, au Brésil, en Argentine, au Canada et aux États- Unis. Aszure Barton Née en Alberta, Aszure Barton découvre la danse à claquettes à trois ans. Elle recevra ensuite une formation en danse à l École nationale de ballet du Canada, à Toronto. Déjà, comme étudiante, elle participe à l établissement du Stephen Godfrey Choreographic Showcase, qui existe toujours aujourd hui. Depuis qu elle a fait ses débuts comme chorégraphe, elle a créé des œuvres pour Mikhaïl Baryshnikov, la Hell s Kitchen Dance, le Ballet national du Canada, le Nederlands Dans Theater, l American Ballet Theatre, BJM - Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal (chorégraphe résidente de 2005 à 2008), la Sydney Dance Company, la Juilliard School, la compagnie Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, la Martha Graham Dance Company et le Houston Ballet, entre autres. En 2006, Aszure Barton a créé les chorégraphies pour la reprise de L Opéra de quat sous, dans une mise en scène de Scott Elliott, mettant notamment en vedette Alan Cumming et Cyndi Lauper. Elle est la fondatrice et directrice d Aszure Barton & Artists. Ses œuvres font l objet de tournées en Europe, en Asie, en Afrique, en Argentine, au Brésil, au Canada et aux États- Unis. Elle est artiste en résidence au Banff Centre, en Alberta, et au Baryshnikov Arts Center, à New York. Elle a été nommée ambassadrice de la danse contemporaine en Alberta.

Mr. Brown s recent NYC work includes work with the Incubator Arts Project, the Ohio Theater, Apollo Theater, Joyce Soho, Three- Legged Dog, Here Arts Center, Ensemble Studio Theatre, 52nd Street Project, Public Theater, La Mama ETC, Under The Radar Festival, Summer Play Festival, Arts Nova, Joe s Pub, and the Baryshnikov Arts Center. His international work includes productions at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, the Golden Mask Festival in Moscow, the Seoul Performing Arts Festival in South Korea, and with Opera Erratica in Toronto. Projection Design work includes productions with Big Apple Baroque, Yale Baroque Opera Project, Diverse City Theater Co., and the Bone Orchard Collective. Mr. Brown is a member of the Wingspace Design Collective and holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama. Lev Ljova Zhurbin Composer (Awáa/Busk) Lev Ljova Zhurbin hailed by Billboard as one of New York s fastest- rising composers and instrumentalists and by The New York Times as an eclectic with an ear for texture... strikingly original and soulful was born in Moscow and moved to New York in 1990. He performs as a violist with Ljova and the Kontraband, string quartets, jazz combos, and Gypsy bands; arranges music for Yo- Yo Ma, Kronos Quartet, Jay- Z, and others; and composes for film, TV, dance, and the concert stage. Ljova has been collaborating and performing alongside Aszure Barton & Artists since the creation of Busk in 2009.

Curtis Macdonald Composer (Awáa) Curtis Macdonald is an alto saxophonist, composer and sound artist. He graduated cum laude from the New School University in 2007 and immediately became faculty. In 2011 he released Community Immunity on Greenleaf Music. Curtis has been informed by several artistic practices as part of his quest for a broader context in which to present his work. Staying close to one of the most desirable artistic communities in North America, the Banff Centre for the Arts has unmistakably left a lasting impact on his philosophy on the creation of music. The exchanges I have with musicians, choreographers, filmmakers, sculptors, engineers, mathematicians and digital artists whom I ve met over the years continually influence the music I produce. Curtis work can be heard on many new music and modern jazz recordings where he organizes improvisation, sound, art and digital technology, drawing virtuosity not only from traditional approaches, but also other transcendental and philosophical models. Curtis has worked with Aszure since 2010. Linda Chow Costume Designer (Awáa) Linda Chow graduated from the Ryerson theatre program in 1982. Sewing and cutting for theatre, dance and film lead to designing for dance. Her work with Kidd Pivot includes The You Show, Dark Matters, and Lost Action. She also collaborated with Crystal Pite on Arietta for Ballet B.C. and Emergence for the National Ballet of Canada. Recently with Ballet B.C. she has worked with Jose Navas, Shawn Hounsell, Medhi Walerski, Serge Bennathan, Gioconda Barbuto, Simone Orlando and Aszure Barton. Michelle Jank Costume Designer (Busk) Michelle Jank is a stylist and lover of dressing up and has just completed her fourth season selling in Paris under her own label. She has worked on three collaborations with Aszure Barton, after meeting through Sydney Dance Company and designing costumes for the acclaimed Sid s Waltzing Masquerade. Michelle is based in the sky, flying between Sydney, London, New York, and Paris. Jonathan Emanuell Alsberry Dancer Jonathan Alsberry began dancing with his mother in Normal, Illinois where he gained his passion and dedication. After being found by Anna Paskevska he went on to graduate from The Chicago Academy for the Arts where he met Randy Duncan and Eduardo Villaro who gave him the tools to continue training at The Juilliard School graduating in the class of 2006.

Upon graduation Alsberry performed with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Luna Negra Dance Theater, Daniel Gwirtzman Dance, Pier Group, Lyric Opera Ballet, Momenta and Madonna. He has recently toured with Aszure Barton & Artists and Mikhail Baryshnikov s Hell s Kitchen Dance, and has worked on projects with choreographers Randy Duncan, Davis Robertson, Ron de Jesus, and Christopher Wheeldon. Jojo currently dances with Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and has worked with Ms. Barton since the makings of Over/Come in 2005. Lara Barclay Dancer Originally from Vancouver, B.C., Lara was only 2 when she followed her big sister into the dance studio. By the age of 10, she left home to study at Toronto s National Ballet School, where Peggy Baker greatly influenced her passion for modern dance. Upon graduation, Lara headed for Europe, continuing her studies at John Neumeier s Hamburg Ballet School and soon after, joining the Kiel Ballet. Lara s professional career has spanned 17 years and seen her as a member of Toronto Dance Theatre, Kevin O Day Ballet Mannheim (Germany), Deborah Colker (Brazil), The Need Company (Belgium), and Move: The Company (Vancouver), among several independent artists. Alongside dancing, Lara is a busy teacher and choreographer in Vancouver as well as co- director of Lamondance, a pre- professional company. She is thrilled that her path has led her back to her talented childhood friend, Aszure Barton with whom Awáa is their first creation together. ** Lara Barclay performs with AB&A courtesy of and in collaboration with the Banff Centre. William Briscoe Dancer William Briscoe began his dance training at the Repertory Dance Company of East Harlem, at age 10. He went on to train at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts, and later earned his BFA from The Juilliard School in 2003. Mr. Briscoe has performed the works of choreographers including Hans Van Manen, Jiri Kylian, Robert Battle, Merce Cunningham, Roger Jeffrey, Karole Armitage, and Aszure Barton. He has been a leading member of Aszure & Artists since 2003 and performed two seasons with Hell s Kitchen Dance. Mr. Briscoe also danced in Geneva, Switzerland, where he created Trans- Warhol, under the directorship of Nicolas Musin. Tobin Del Cuore Dancer Tobin Del Cuore started dancing and choreographing at the age of 12 in the small town of Norway, Maine. At 16 he began his ballet training at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts.

Two years later was accepted to the Juilliard School under the direction of Benjamin Harkarvy graduating in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Upon graduating, Del Cuore joined the artists of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. First a member of Hubbard Street 2, Del Cuore moved up to the main company in 2003. Del Cuore has most recently danced with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Philadelphia s BalletX, Mark Morris Dance Group (supplemental) and Norwegian Cruise Lines. He is also an accomplished video artist having made video works for numerous organizations in Chicago and beyond. Andrew Murdock Dancer Andrew Murdock grew up dancing in Alberta, Canada and is thrilled to be performing with Aszure Barton & Artists. He has also worked with Aszure Barton at The Juilliard School and with BJM Les Ballet Jazz de Montréal. Andrew is extremely grateful for the opportunity to explore with this incredible group of people. Emily Oldak Dancer Emily Oldak was born and raised in NYC. She graduated with a BFA from the Juilliard School in 2005. While at Juilliard she danced works by Aszure Barton, Paul Taylor, Ohad Naharin, Dwight Rhoden, and Robert Battle. Directly after school, she joined Cirque du Soleil for their new Creation of Love which was in collaboration with the music of The Beatles. After 3 years she decided to return to her home to pursue a freelance career. Recently she has worked with the Chase Brock Experience and is very excited to be working with Aszure Barton and the family. She first worked with Ms. Barton in 2005. Davon Rainey Dancer Davon Rainey started taking tap lessons in first grade in Memphis, TN. After the director of DanceWorks heard about him in 1996 she gave him a full scholarship to study ballet at her studio. In 2000, after his sophomore year at Central High School, he was given a full scholarship to Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. From there, he went on to the Juilliard School in New York City where he was, once again, given a full scholarship. After 2 years there, he went on to work with companies and choreographers including, Aszure Barton & Artists, Buglisi/Foreman Dance Company, Bill T. Jones Dance Company, Public Dance Theatre, Sidra Bell Dance NYC, Jonah Bokaer, Michelle Mola, and Company XIV. Davon first worked with Aszure Barton in 2005 and is happy to be returning to the AB&A family.

Kyle Robinson Dancer Kyle Robinson is originally from Massachusetts. He studied dance for 8 years at The Gold School under the direction of Rennie Gold, and is a graduate of The Juilliard School in New York. He has danced with Aszure Barton since 2006.
