Municipal Assesscient Valuations 19 27 The Bureau herewith presents its annual bulletin dealing with assesieat valuations of the various classes of munipipalities throughout Canada for the ycar 1927, which is the latest for which such statistics are available. Previous reportc cover the va1uatiors for the years 1919 jw 1926 inclusive. The systems of assessment as between provinces are so diverse that much d.ifficu].ty is exoerienced in rrocuring comparability. To overcome this trouble the Bureau consulted with municipal and provincial office.rs where any di9crepancies were apparent, and the following notes will be found useful in colnection with the tabes. In the province of Prince Edward Island there Is no systan of rural raunicioalities so that land valuations as estimated by provincial authorities are used. In New Brunswick there is no Municipal iffairs Department and though inunicia1ities areroquired. by law to ucke eertain annual returns of assessment valuations and bonded debt to the government their annual returns are incomplete and strict comparability from year to year is imdoible. Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia are the only provinces soporp.ting land and building valuations, while personal property assessmct is not recorded in Qaebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan or British Columbia. Income valuation is not shown in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba or Quebec. The report is made up of two main t&les, one showing a swxnary by rovinces of the valuations of various classes of taxable properties, also oxcnnptcd valuations, the other giving in detail va1uat.ons according to classes of municipalities The total taxable value of real property in Canada increaed from $6,029,012,649 in 3919 to $7,564,935,64O in 1927. P(rsona),rrrnorty, which is only taxed in certain provinces icreaod from $5 2 92,7'9 in 1919 to $6,21,71 in 1927. Income, for the provinces in which it is ta:od i:iereaed. from $1031260J41 ir 1919 to $176,O 4,316 in 1927. Other taxabl,m1w.tjons thici amounted to $ 1E9,1 5l in 191 0 increased to $267 14O,207 in 1927 1 while the valuation of property which is oxcptcd from taxation incroasci ::ror $311,935,964 in 1919 to $1,35,132,236 in 1927.
