Dear Delegates, My name is Chiara Magliocca, and I could not be more excited to welcome you to IMUN Middle School 2017! As the Secretary-General, it is my responsibility to ensure a smooth and successful execution of this edition of IMUN Middle School. Over the past months, your directors and I have worked so hard to prepare ourselves for this exciting conference, in order to make this experience the best one for every single one of you. The topics you are going to discuss are up-to-date, exciting and extremely interesting; so much that that I almost wish I was a delegate. I really can t wait to see the product of your research and preparation manifest in each committee. This is my fourth year as a member of the staff and my sixth year involved in Model UN, since I participated in five different conferences, IMUN included. I am 22 years old and I am currently studying particle and nuclear physics at the University of Rome La Sapienza. With my degree, I hope to attend a PhD and, after this, I hope to work as a researcher. I am also a volleyball player and I love watching TV series, such as How to Get Away with Murder and Suits. I live in Rome and I have two brothers, one sister and a cat. Model UN was one of the best experience of my life, and it is the most intellectually stimulating experience in which you can participate in. I am sure you will learn a lot, and, after having discussed these amazing topics, you will undoubtedly gain a better perspective on our global society. As a past delegate myself, there are a couple of advices I would like to share with you. First of all, make sure to be adequately prepared for the conference, be curious and extremely accurate on searching information about your country and topic. When devising solutions, make sure to not only think about what your proposals and solutions are, but also, how they can be implemented. Do not be ordinary: think outside the box! Always remember that you should work with the other delegates to propose some practical solutions to the topic: if you work together, everything will be easier. I am sure that, even if you are so young, you will be incredible during the conference! Feel free to contact me if you have any doubts or questions about your committee or topic, about your preparation or the conference in general. I really cannot wait to see all of you. Sincerely, Chiara Magliocca Secretary-General, IMUN Middle School 2017 sg.middleschoolroma@unitednetwork.it 3
