President s Announcements: RC Sale Central President Andrew welcomed members and guests including guest speaker Archie Towers and his family, Gerard Callinan and special guests Les and Mary Jackson. RC Sale president Jeanette introduced PDG Don who interviewed Archie Towers who explained his participation in the Rotary Junior Community Awards including volunteering in the Op Shop. Don congratulated Archie and encouraged him to promote the program through his peers. Archie and Don enjoy the interview. Archie s proud family and secretary Laurie RC Sale.

Gerard Callinan spoke briefly to the meeting promoting next year s Race the Rubeena event. He called for Rotary support through volunteering and promotion. See promotion information below. Philip reported on behalf of Alan regarding the Heritage Trail signage upgrade project. He called for sponsors for the signs and flagged a future working bee for installation. Presidents Jeanette and Andrew along with Noel unite to promote the Race the Rubeena project.

Race the Rubeena 2019 The Race the Rubeena is a unique community event, brought to you by the Rotary Club of Sale and based around the Port of Sale and Longford Swing Bridge precincts in the Wellington Shire, about two hours east of Melbourne. The event comprises two separate running events: a 10 kilometre, flat, timed run which starts and finishes at the Port of Sale with a turnaround point at the Swing Bridge; and a five kilometre run which starts at the Swing Bridge and finishes at the Port. President Andrew introduced Michael Page to recall the enormous contribution made by Les and Mary Jackson to the Rotary Club of Sale Central over many years. Friend of the Jacksons since 1976, Michael paid tribute to the Les s 26 years of service to Rotary. Les was president in 2003/04 when the Rotary theme was Lend a Hand, a theme that epitomized Les s hands on practical approach to the many projects he led and of which he was involved. Les was recognized in in 2009 by being inducted as a Paul Harris Fellow. Some of the highlights of his Rotary career include: Supervising the building of a residential house during his year as President which returned a profit of $19000.00. 2004 restoration of the Silver Brumby Hut. 2007 the original Skate Park promotion supporting the kids to raise $52000.00 with encouraging major contributions from the Club and the Shire. 2011/12 International Director 2012/13 Vocational Director and participation in the District bike ride to Conference 2013 Relay for Life organiser. Michael handed over to President Andrew who presented Les with a special commemorative plaque. Les responded with further reminiscences including Rotary visits in Nepal, tree planting working bees and Jazz in the Vines all of which he described as rewarding hard work but fun.
