金光裕 (Gene) Kwang-Yu King Mr. King is a writer and an architect. He established King Shih Architects (KSA) in 1999 with Erin C. Shih in Taiwan. As a writer, he won various national awards ad has published four collections of short stories and essays, and is going to publish a historical novel this summer. He further served as the editor-in-chief of Dialogue, a bi-lingual architectural magazine, from 1998 to 2005, during which he acted as organizer of various international symposiums and competitions and curator for a number of architectural exhibitions. Among KSA s architectural works, the office completed Fine Arts Museum Park area, including Expo Hall for the 2010 Taipei Flora Expo. Another project of his is the National Taiwan University s Environmental Science Center, a laboratory building devoted to research and the sciences. Presbyterian Da-Dao-Chen Church is where the office provided an innovative approach to historical preservation. Furthermore, his firm built the Subaru car dealership center in Taipei that has proved to be a success. Nanako Umemoto received her Bachelor of Architecture from Cooper Union in New York in 1983, following studies at the School of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture at the Osaka University of Art, and formed Reiser + Umemoto with partner, Jesse Reiser in 1986. Nanako has taught at various schools in the US and Asia, including Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, Hong Kong University, Kyoto University, and the Cooper Union, and she has lectured widely at various educational and cultural institutions throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Reiser + Umemoto, RUR Architecture, PC, an internationally recognized multidisciplinary design firm, which has built projects at a wide range of scales: from furniture design, to residential and commercial structures, up to the scale of landscape, urban design, and infrastructure. Reiser + Umemoto published the Atlas of Novel Tectonics, in 2006, and recently released the Japanese edition in 2008. They have recently won two international competitions: the Taipei Pop Music Center and the Kaohsiung Port Terminal, both scheduled to begin construction in 2012. O 14 a 22 story exoskeletal office tower has recently been completed in Dubai, which has received numerous international honors, including the Concrete Industry Board s 2009 Award of Merit and the American Council of Engineering Companies 2009 Diamond Award. A comprehensive monograph of the project, O 14: Projection and Reception, is currently in production by AA Publications, and is scheduled for release in 2011. The work of Reiser + Umemoto has been published and exhibited widely, and firm was awarded the Chrysler Award for Excellence in Design in 1999. Jesse Reiser and Nanako Umemoto received the Academy Award in Architecture by the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2000. In May of 2008, they were awarded the Presidential Citation from President George Campbell of the Cooper Union for outstanding practical and theoretical contributions to the field of Architecture, and in April 2011, they were honored with the John Hejduk Award, also from the Cooper Union.
