George Dabney "Uncle George" Coleman GEO. D. COLEAN Passes Away at the Age of 88 Years. Last Thursday night r. George Dabney Coleman, one of the oldest and best known men in this community, died at the home of rs. Lucy Robb, his sister-in-law, at Robb's station, this county. r. Coleman was one of the landmarks of ercer, having lived here since he was five years of age. His parents came from redericksburg, Va., and the child was carried across the Allegheny mountains on the back of a faithful slave. He grew up with the country and was a regular storehouse of knowledge, regarding its history and that of the people in it, and he was always accurate in the knowledge which made him a sort of book of reference for everybody. He was at one time one of the largest stock traders in these parts, but in his old age he lost everything and at the time of his death was cared for by relatives. He was a famous fiddler and in nearly every one of the Old iddlers' contests in this and neighboring counties, he was one of the contestants, in many instances carrying off the honor. He had a friendly greeting for all and everyone, even, to the little children, knew and liked "Uncle George." At the time of his death, he was 88 years of age, and the last of a large family of eight brothers and four sisters. His remains were brought here and interred in Spring Hill cemetery.
