1 3 4 2 5 Our Story In 1939, Sol Miller bought a large parcel of land in Hartville, OH. With the support of the community, he constructed a 30'x80' building out of lumber cut from his father's farm. This building housed a live stock auction that opened in 1939. Drawing not only from Hartville, but the neighboring communities as well, the auction began to grow. Sol starting providing space for vendors to come and sell their wares. This was the beginning of the Hartville Flea Market. Sol's wife, Soloma, opened a small lunch stand to feed the patrons and vendors that came to the auction and flea market. After Sol's death, his son Howard Miller and his wife, Sarah, bought the business and continued to make it grow. The lunch stand moved to a small restaurant in its own building next to the sale barn. In 1966, Hartville Kitchen was born. In 1972, Howard Miller began selling clocks inside the restaurant. He started bringing in more and more merchandise and the Hartville Collectibles was born. In 1972, Howard purchased the local hardware store in Hartville for 2 of his sons, Howard Miller Jr. and Wayne Miller, who started running the
8 9 6 7 business. The store expanded 2 years later to a 22,500 sq. ft. building. In 1980, Howard Sr. purchased a farm a mile away from the Hartville Kitchen in the hope of bringing all his family businesses together into one location. Currently, the businesses are operated by third and fourth generation family members. Though time has changed the looks of the businesses, the values remain the same: Commitment to quality, service, and community.
