AIA/WJ A Message from the President Unbelievably the end of the year is almost here. Our last AIA West Jersey membership meeting is scheduled for November 9th, at Cafe Aldo Lamberti in Cherry Hill. This will be our Annual Meeting and election of officers for 2007. The continuing education seminar after dinner will focus on Brownfields projects, highlighting a wide range of information any architect should know from what projects fall under the Brownfields criteria to specific details to address during the process. Speakers will include a representative from NJ DEP, as well as architects experienced in completing Brownfields projects. We want to thank Barry Bannett, AIA, for giving a very informative presentation on Architects and the DesignBuild process at our October member meeting. Also, in October, the Annual Scholarship Golf Outing was held at Riverton Country Club. At the dinner that night both scholarship winners were able to attend and presentations were made to honor the awards. Congratulations to scholarship winners Kevin Dummer and Megan O'Reilly. Lastly, invitations will go out soon in the mail for the 2007 Inaugural Gala. Join us January 20th, at the Collingswood Community Center, this will be the first of many exciting events scheduled for 2007. In addition to the swearing in of the officers, this years inaugural will also have a Silent Auction for the winning photos submitted to the Photography Competition. Hope to see you there. Thanks, - Kimberly Bunn Collingswood, NJ - 2006 PHOTO BY Grant Peatman Collingswood N.J. will be celebrated during the January Inaugural Dinner. The event will be held the evening of January 20, 2007 at the Collingwood Community Center Plan ahead and reserve your place early. Page 2

AIA/WJ Heart of Camden A Call for Volunteers AIA-West Jersey will be looking for volunteers next spring to assist with the rehabilitation of homes for the Heart of Camden Housing. Heart of Camden, a past recipient of AIA-West Jersey s Community Service Award, is a local non-profit community development corporation dedicated to the revitalization of the South Camden neighborhood known as Waterfront South. They acquire vacant properties and completely rehabilitate them for sale to low-income homeowners. They also prepare the families for homeownership through homeowner counseling, credit counseling and assistance in qualifying for mortgages. Since 1984, over 100 houses have been completely rehabilitated, providing the families with a sense of dignity and independence. While most of the rehabilitation work is performed by professional contractors, volunteers play a vital role in preparing the houses for rehabilitation with clean-up and demolition work to gut the houses. The volunteer work will be performed on a Saturday, beginning at 8:30 am and finishing up at noon. The exact dates of the work days will be scheduled early 2007 and will be announced in this newsletter. For more information, please contact Dave Lummis, ph: (856) 428-8877 or dlummis@ignarrilummis.com. Officer Elections: AIA-West Jersey elections will be held at the Annual Meeting held on Nov. 9th. The slate of officers for 2007 is as follows: President - Grant Peatman, AIA President Elect - David Lummis, AIA Vice President - John Glaviano, AIA Treasurer - Mark Keen, AIA AIA Secretary - Carlos Castro, AIA AIA Past President - Kimberly Bunn, AIA Get Involved: AIA West Jersey has been actively programing events and trips that will help everyone with their professional development and personal enjoyment of Architecture. However, we need your help. There is a strong need for volunteers to participate or chair committees that hold special interest to them. Your participation will ensure that important issues are addressed and relevant programming is provided. Our chapter is not the largest, however, with your help we can build and maintain a vital and robust asset to our members and to the surrounding communities that we live and work in. Please consider joining our efforts, as well as encouraging your co-workers to join and participate in AIA West Jersey. Below is a listing of the Committees. If you are interested in more information, or would like to volunteer, please contact Kimerly Bunn, President AIA/WJ at west@aia-nj.org!
