The NGC Board Manual will be put on the website in the Board section. Board members are requested to either download it or make a copy. A Board Orientation will be held for new members and a date will be selected after the meeting. Sondra reported on a seminar she attended and shared event best practices. She will try to obtain electronic copies for the Board. All motions were unanimously approved. Current membership Status after Board action on 4-24-13: Actives-193 (includes 3 Honorary and 2 Life); Provisionals-31 (includes 2 Holdovers- Bork and Schweitzer); Sustaining-10; TOTAL 234 Finance Statements of Financial Position and Activities March 31, 2013 are posted separately online. Pat McNamara, Assistant Finance Chair, stated that to date 137 NGC members had not paid their dues. Peggy Blackburn, Finance Chair, said that the Naples Flower Show

finances are still being processed. NGC Board Members were requested as a 501(c) 3 best practice to make a donation to NGC, acknowledging our commitment and compliance to the board. Flower Show The dates for the 2014 show will be Friday and Saturday, March 28 & 29, 2014, 9 AM-5 PM, agreed upon by both NBG & NGC. 2014 Naples Flower Show will be, Alice in Wonderland Through the Looking Glass themed. We have not made any final decisions in regard to exact title, pictures/photos, etc., as much will rely on copyright issues. We have written and received notification from Disney Enterprises, Inc. and they are in the process of evaluating our request to use their images, etc., for our show. Because we are a non-profit group and incorporating the education of children, we may very well get their approval. If not we will go in a little different direction to eliminate this problem. This general title does open the door to many colorful options and the whole committee feels it will make a fun and exciting theme and will also encourage many aspects of our mission to educate and contribute to our community by involving the Avalon Global Garden children, Grace Place children, our FGCU NGC Fellowship recipient and NGC Idea Garden s NBG Intern. House &Garden Tour 2014 Raynelle Perkins, reporting for H&GT Chair Arlene Cluff, stated that we have 2 contracts and 3 houses; one home is rambling with beautiful art work and gardens; one is a new Polynesian design with a roof top garden; Mike and Jackie Malloy helped procure the third house which showcases their designed butterfly garden in the atrium. There are a couple possibilities for a fourth house. The floral design house captains have been assigned. Survey Linda Brown said that 86 NGC members have responded to the survey. A majority of the replies were very positive and happy with the venue, day and time, as well as programs, NFS, H&GT, and our workshops. 42 written responses included requests for more Provisional interaction and a less busy January-March schedule, perhaps limiting the annual scheduling of H&GT and NFS. The results of the survey will be posted online. Program Education Gail Duke, 1st VP, discussed a joint effort between the NGC and NBG to present GCA s FA101 design course for beginners (tentative cost $195) as an all day workshop. It will be

held for both garden club members as well as NBG members and taught by some of our top designers. Mary Raymond will coordinate and lead this course. Design and Horticulture workshops will be held on their regular Mondays; Environmental workshop scheduled day is still to be decided. Mary Raymond is the H&GT Floral Design Chair and will work with Melinda Earle and Gail Pica on a plan to integrate the house themes (butterfly, art, Polynesian, etc.) into a floral design class for beginning designers to learn more about designing for homes. Design Salon Chairs- Melinda Earle and Gail Pica; Melinda will teach a New Trends class Lydia Galton will teach a July and August workshop discussing plant manipulation. Suggested trips-sea Shell Museum on Sanibel Island and a visit to a Miami Orchidacea Communication Task Force Sondra Quinn, CTF Chair, said that Jeanne Bolds will be placing the Styles Guide on the Website. We will have further training at our fall board retreat. Linda Brown mentioned that our official Letter Head will be updated and posted online. Jeanne Bolds will display the templates for business cards etc. online. There will be marketing meetings for the H&GT, Education/Programs and NFS. We will compile what we do and what we need for PR and Communication as part of a strategic plan and also put together a timeline for the club. Communications Liz Chehayl suggested the following Trowel Prints changes: change monthly newsletters to weekly or a bi-monthly publication. The change would impact the length of the articles concerning the H&GT and NFS. This is a tentative plan and needs more consideration. Polly Galliker is responsible for the Newsletter and Carol McMenamy is handling the yearbook.
