Passumpsic 1961. HENRY, OR HENDRY. THOMAS 1 HENDRY and wife came from Scotland in 1801 in the "Phoenix." With them came the Wallace and Fulton families of Newbury, the Robens, Andrew Buchanan and others of Ryegate, the McNabs of Barnet and others. He lived first in Newbury, then in Barnet. He was a moulder by trade, and worked in Brandon several years, and some of his children settled there. He was noted for his skill in the management of bees. His wife d. and he m. 2nd Sept. 19, 1811 Mary dau. Samuel Lindsay of Newbury and lived on the Wright farm in Ryegate between 1839 and 1840. Rem. to Connecticut and d. 1868 at Forestdale. Barnet Jan. 1, 1922. GENEALOGY HOYT, OR HIGHT. 495 HOYT, OR HIGHT. SERGEANT JOHN HOYT was the immigrant ancestor of great numbers of the Hoyt and Hight families of New England and elsewhere. He was living at Salisbury, Mass. in 1639, and may have been there some years. Was prominent in his time in both town and church, and the militia. He was also state senator. He d. in 1688. The name is spelled Hoyt, Holt, Hight, and Height. His descendants near Dover, N. H., spell the name Hight, as do many of the Maine families. The following incomplete record will show the ancestry of several families. John Hoyt had four sons, of whom John and William are understood to have settled at Newington, N. H., from one of whom John 1 Hight who settled in Barnet, is probably descended. DENNIS HOYT was taxed at Barnet in 1794 for 1 poll, 95 wild acres, and 6 improved acres; he then disappears from the Town Records. JOHN HOYT/HIGHT FAMILY.* JOHN 1 HIGHT, m. South Walden Cem.); no grave recorded for her there. No ch. WILLARD HOYT FAMILY.* (came to Barnet from Craftsbury) WILLARD, 1 HOYT b. Craftsbury ab. 1800; rem. to Jay when the country was new; and came to Barnet in 1868 and settled with his son, Hubbard on what is now called Tripp Lane in the county, where they farmed. Some time after 1887 Willard 1 and Hubbard 2 rem. to the Joe' s Brook Road where lived six generations of Hoyts, the house being sold by his grgrgr-grandaughter after the d. of her mother and her own marriage; part of the farm continues (2007) to be owned and occupied by the last male Hoyt of the line (sixth generation). Willard 1 was living with his son, Hubbard 2, on the Joe' s Brook Road when he d. Dec. 18, 1889. Although he d. quite suddenly, he was over 90 years of age, and it was not supposed to be from any contagious disease. However, a few days later his grandson, Seth, 3 took sick from malignant diptheria and d. after a few days' illness on Dec. 30. A day later Hubbard, 2 Seth' s father, was taken with the same disease and d. Jan. 5; meanwhile Jasper, another son, became sick, but was reported as "doing well"; however by Jan. 16, he too, was gone. The Caledonian reported that great difficulty was encountered in getting help and a nurse and the mother and two younger children (ab. 6 & 12) might also have died had it not been for the assistance of Mr. Wilbur Nelson, Mr. Hoyt' s son-in-law, who stayed throughout. Willard 1 m. 1st Sarah Berkley of Lyman, N. H. by whom he had four children, three of whom lived to grow up. Child' s says he "m. 2nd Lydia Clough of Lyman; she had one child, Hubbard H."; but, Hubbard' s dc gives his mother' s name as "Sarah Berkley". Willard is buried at Passumpsic with his son, Hubbard' s family.

SERGEANT JOHN HOYT was the immigrant ancestor of great numbers of the Hoyt and Hight families of New England and elsewhere. He was living at Salisbury, Mass. in 1639, and may have been there some years. Was prominent in his time in both town and church, and the militia. He was also state senator. He d. in 1688. The name is spelled Hoyt, Holt, Hight, and Height. His descendants near Dover, N. H., spell the name Hight, as do many of the Maine families. The following incomplete record will show the ancestry of several families. John Hoyt had four sons, of whom John and William are understood to have settled at Newington, N. H., from one of whom John 1 Hight who settled in Barnet, is probably descended. DENNIS HOYT was taxed at Barnet in 1794 for 1 poll, 95 wild acres, and 6 improved acres; he then disappears from the Town Records [Grand List]. JOHN HOYT/HIGHT FAMILY. JOHN 1 HIGHT, m. Some time after 1887 [Child' s] Willard 1 and Hubbard 2 rem. to the Joe' s Brook Road where lived six generations of Hoyts, the house being sold by his grgrgr-grandaughter after the d. of her mother and her own marriage; part of the farm continues (2007) to be owned and occupied by her brother, the last male Hoyt of the line (sixth generation) [BLR]. Willard 1 was living with his son, Hubbard 2, on the Joe' s Brook Road when he d. Dec. 18, 1889 [OBIT]. Although he d. quite suddenly, he was over 90 years of age, and it was not supposed to be from any contagious disease. However, a few days later his grandson, Seth, 3 took sick from malignant diphtheria and d. after a few days' illness on Dec. 30. A day later Hubbard, 2 Seth' s father, was taken with the same disease and d. Jan. 5; meanwhile Jasper, another son, became sick, but was reported as "doing well"; however by Jan. 16, he too, was gone. The Caledonian reported that great difficulty was encountered in getting help and a nurse and the mother and two younger children (ab. 6 & 12) might also have died had it not been for the assistance of Mr. Wilbur Nelson, Mr. Hoyt' s son-in-law, who stayed throughout [FAMILY OBITs CalRec 1/9/1890 & 1/23/1890]. Willard 1 m. 1st Sarah Berkley [son Hubbard' s dc] of Lyman, N.H. by whom he had four children, three of whom lived to grow up [Child' s].
