Euan informed us that the Quiz Night will be held in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Magill Sunrise on the 6 th of May at the Hungarian Club in Osmond Terrace, Norwood. He called for volunteers to join an organising committee and also indicated that we needed more prizes. He thanked those who had helped raise $1236 at Bunnings on the preceding Friday and also those who had participated in the Shelterbox collection on the Saturday. This raised $566. Marie and 3 members of the winning E-Challenge team from Urrbrae High School will be sponsored by our club to attend RYPEN. This is the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment which will be held at the Woodhouse Activity Centre in April. Rob Hill then spoke to us about an event that the Rotary Club of Stirling is running called Art, Science and the Mind taking place on Friday 24th March at 7:30pm - Stirling Community Theatre, Avenue Road, Stirling SA (Promotional flyer has been included in pages below). He succeeded in selling a few tickets after the meeting. Michael Fox reminded members of a Bunnings BBQ to be held on March 24 th. Euan introduced ourfirst speaker Alice Morgan. Alice is a year 12 student from Pembroke who attended the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra at the Australia National University. This is a 12 day residential program for outstanding students in the STEM area. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Prior to attending NYSF Alice had wanted to be a vet, probably working in the Adelaide Hills. Her idea of a future career has now broadened to include engineering. She spoke of very full days, of inspiring people, of making lifelong friends and experiencing a broadening of her mind. She thanked the Rotary Club of Norwood for sponsoring her for the most amazing two weeks of her life. Euan thanked Alice and introduced Thomas Hoang as our second speaker. The club had sponsored Thomas to attend the RYLA Camp. RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. This was a 7 day residential program held at Belair. Thomas chose to speak about the benefits to him of attending the camp. He had learned leadership skills, communication skills and the value of teamwork. He also had made some very close friends. He believed that the most important benefit for him and other International students was a better understanding of the Australian culture. He has also gained a better sense of self-awareness and appreciated sincere feedback. Janelle Gaudet won the raffle, contributions were given to the Rotary Foundation through the Happy Dollar segment and President Euan closed the meeting.
