Warrawee The place to be educated for the future UPCOMING EVENTS: TERM 2, 2018 Mon 04/06 08/06 Zone Cross Country Rofe Park, Hornsby Heights Jollybops Science Incursion for K-2 Dear Parents and Carers, PUBLIC SCHOOL Term 2, Week 5: 29 May 2018 WORKING BEE Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that came and helped out at the P&C Working Bee on Sunday. Around 250 people came to lend a hand and what a difference it has made to the look of our school. The grounds are sparkling and everything looked amazing for our Kindergarten 2019 tour this morning. Our P&C did a fabulous job organising the event and I am very grateful. Sun 17/06 Tue 19/06 06/07 Wahroonga Band Festival School Photo Day (see Page 2) End of Term 2 A special thank you must go to Mr Jon for giving up his time to help and also to Warrawee Anglican for supplying morning tea and lunch for everyone. Members of Warrawee Anglican also lent a hand in the garden as well which was very generous of them. All in all this was a very special school community day. Thank you all for supporting the school in this way. NEW CLASSROOM Due to our increased student numbers this year we will be gaining an additional classroom. The room will be positioned next to 2M on the Finlay side of the school and should be arriving within the next month or so. PSSA SPORT: TERM 2, 2018 01/06 08/06 15/06 29/06 06/07 : vs Turramurra Nth at Turramurra Nth PS vs Turramurra Nth at Turramurra Nth PS vs Turramurra PS at Turramurra PS vs Turramurra PS at Turramurra PS vs Hornsby South PS at Montview Oval vs Hornsby South PS at Montview Oval BYE vs Brooklyn PS at Brooklyn Oval Berowra PS at Warrawee PS Berowra PS at The Glade Further upcoming events (including Term dates) can be viewed by clicking on this link www.warrawee-p.schools.nsw.edu.au to the home page of our school website, and then clicking on Calendar. SCHOOL TOUR FOR KINDY 2019 Today we held our first Kindergarten 2019 school tour. If you know of anyone thinking of enrolling their child at Warrawee next year please encourage them to complete an enrolment form as soon as possible as it helps us plan appropriately for next year. UNAUTHORISED USE OF STAFF CARPARKS Just a reminder: that no parents or unauthorised vehicles are to enter our staff car parks without approval. If special circumstances require you to use the carpark at any time you must first seek permission from the Principal or Deputy Principal. No permission will be granted for unauthorised vehicles between the hours of 7:30 and 9:00am or between 2:30 and 4:00pm. ROAD SAFETY AROUND OUR SCHOOL Traffic and pedestrian issues are always an issue of concerns around the school. We rely heavily on drivers doing the correct thing and following the road rules and parking signs. We also need the children to take care and follow some rules as well to ensure their safety. If your child rides a bike or scooter to school please remind them that they must get off before the building site next door and walk the rest of the way to the school. The fear is that drivers exiting or entering the school will not see and react quickly enough to children on bikes and scooters. If your child walks to or from school please remind them to take care when walking across driveways and to always stop and check carefully before crossing the road. 3-6 PLAYGROUND IMPROVEMENT On 13 June a playground improvement project is due to commence in front of the band room. This is a long awaited for development and we are very excited to know that the commencement date is now rapidly approaching. GOOD LUCK ZONE CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITORS I would like to wish our Warrawee cross country representatives the very best of luck as they compete at the Zone Cross Country Carnival on Monday. It is a great achievement to reach this level and we are all very proud of these runners. Thank you to Mrs Pellarini and Mrs Schmidt for volunteering to be our team managers on the day. Good luck to all of our Warrawee representatives!!! Have a wonderful week. This is due to time restrictions of children boarding buses and volume of orders on a day. We're hoping this will make it more manageable for all involved in sport. Please use another day for your special order. Thank you for your support with this. VOLUNTEERS Please consider volunteering with us this term, no need to register online, just turn up, the door is open! The Infants children love seeing a parent in the tuckshop. We particularly need help on Wed, Thurs and days, to open the Infants window at lunchtime. If you have a spare hour please come to the primary canteen at 12.15pm. Only thing we need is your Working With Children Check. We thank you in advance. P&C NEWS WORKING BEE A huge thank you to the more that 250 helpers that came to the school Working Bee. What an amazing turn out by the Warrawee Public School community. Together we: collected 16m 3 of green waste spread 12m 3 of playground mulch spread 5m 3 of garden bed mulch moved 3 tonnes of garden soil cleared 2 large drains high pressure hosed colas painted a section of the school fence cleaned the bathrooms and more! Thanks to Warrawee Anglican and our Community Partners Century 21 Radar Properties for providing the morning tea, face painting and BBQ lunch and to Campbell s Superior Meats of West Pymble for supplying the sausages at a subsidised cost. Thanks also to Mr Jon and the P&C Grounds Committee, particularly Matt D and Mark D, for coordinating the Working Bee. Well done to the participating students who earned a mini merit. And overall, a big thank you to everyone for your time and effort in supporting our school, it is very much appreciated. BENDIGO BANKING UPDATE Our parent helper, who has very kindly collected and returned the student banking each week for the past few years, is no longer able to undertake this role. Unfortunately we have received no volunteers to take over the role. Following discussions at the P&C meeting last Monday 21 May, those families that still wish to participate in this program will need to take their children s banking directly to Bendigo Bank themselves. Thank you for your understanding. NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY It was fantastic to see so many students and parents/carers walking to school on day 18 May National Walk Safely to School Day, especially those taking on the twin peaks of Finlay and Blytheswood! The participating students earned themselves a mini merit. The students really enjoyed the visit by the police too, especially getting to look in the police cars. Thanks to Rachel W for assisting the school with this great initiative. We encourage students and their parents/carers to keep up the safe walking to school, it makes a difference to the traffic around the school, improves road safety awareness and builds healthy habits. WORKING TOGETHER WITH THE SRC Katy B and I met with the school SRC last Tuesday to hear about what initiatives they are working on, particularly in the area of fundraising. Such an enthusiastic group of students with so many great ideas! We also spoke about how the P&C and the SRC may be able to work together on a fundraising campaign together later this year which is exciting. We also discussed having SRC representatives come along to speak at our next P&C meeting in August so don t miss out on this opportunity to hear from our Warrawee Public School students. The next meeting P&C meeting is Monday 6 August 7pm in the library so mark it in your diaries now, would be great to see you there. A traffic sub committee meeting was also held last night Monday 28 May, thanks to those that participated. SUB-COMMITTEES We have a few P&C subcommittees including: Fundraising Traffic and Parking Grounds Community Band Strategic Projects Each subcommittee is coordinated by one of the P&C Executive Members. We welcome anyone who would like to be part of these committees or if you have any suggestions, please email me at the address below. We would love to hear your thoughts. REMINDERS Monday 6 August 7pm - P&C Meeting in the school library, all welcome Monday 29 October 7pm - P&C Meeting in the school library, all welcome More dates to come soon Thanks so much for your support Sally Bayley P&C president.warraweepandc@gmail.com BAND NEWS Miss Gandy is away this week and this gives the children the opportunity to experience a different conductor.
