Situation Norton Sub Hamdon is a pretty village 5 miles to the West of Yeovil at the foot of Ham Hill and remains popular owing to its excellent range of amenities including a pub, thriving communityrun shop and post office, Primary school, church, village hall, Café and hairdressers. The nearby market town of Crewkerne offers a Waitrose and mainline rail links to London Waterloo. Yeovil is the commercial centre for the area and has an excellent range of services including most high street shops, a hospital, cinema, two theatres and various supermarkets. The area is well served by both state and independent schools and there are good connections by road to the east and west along the A303. The M5 at Taunton is about 20 miles. Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast only 20 miles away. Description The Manor House is a prominent, attractive and substantial Hamstone village house with flexible, well presented accommodation arranged over three floors. The property is thought to have been constructed in the 17th century and has immense character with period features including decorative stone mullion windows, exposed ceiling timbers, a fine inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove in the reception hall and other fireplaces around the house. In the house there are some charming rooms including an elegant drawing room with a pretty bay window overlooking the front lawn, a dining room with another impressive Hamstone fireplace and a particularly appealing master bedroom suite with triple aspect windows. The house is well laid out and ideal for a family, and also offers the opportunity to develop a self-contained annexe that could otherwise be brought back into the main house. An adjoining Georgian Wing was added to the property but has been a separate residence for many years. Outside The gardens at the Manor House are a major feature and well screened given the proximity of the house in the village. To the front facing in an easterly direction, a stone path leads to the front door dissecting an attractive lawn flanked to the north by a pretty stone wall where there is a stone terrace and seating area. The centre of the front garden is divided by a fine old Yew hedge beyond which lies another lawn flanked by mature hedging. On the eastern boundary is a small copse and around the garden there are some pretty specimen trees, shrubs and plants. The driveway to the house sweeps round from the West off a quiet village lane and leads to a large area of parking and 4 bay car port. From here there is access to a stone walled courtyard and terrace providing a sunny seating area and access to the back door. There is a large beech tree in the copse containing a lovely treehouse complete with deck.
