It originally faced west onto Tennessee; it now faces north. Significance, continued: county courthouse was constructed. This house is the city's lone example of Greek Revival architecture, a style that was popular in Texas during the mid-19th century. With its pedimented portico, centerpassage plan, and symmetrical composition, it stands as a superb illustration of the style. It was given to the Women's Guild in 1975 who now use it as a museum.
