Location The Cundall Family Ranch is located eight miles west of Guernsey in the far eastern area of Platte County, Wyoming. Wendover Road provides excellent year around access and forms the northern boundary of the ranch. The Burlington Northern Railroad forms a portion of the western boundary. There are excellent views of nearby Lake Guernsey from the Cundall Family Ranch. This grand old post witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories. The National Pony Express Association holds an annual commemorative re-run of the route from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. This historic trail runs through the Ft. Laramie and Guernsey area along nearly the same route as the Oregon Trail. This monument marks the pathway of the historic Oregon Trail where it passes through the Cundall Family Ranch. Guernsey Ruts (Deep Rut Hill) At this site, where the trail was forced away from the river and crossed a ridge of soft sandstone, the track is worn to a depth of five feet, creating some of the most spectacular ruts remaining along the entire length of the Oregon-California Trail. The geography of the area dictated that practically every wagon that went west crossed the ridge in exactly the same place, with impressive results.
