PRESS RELEASE 12-04-64 20 April 2012 Inauguration of ift Symposium: Transparent Building On 25 and 26 June 2012 the ift Rosenheim will start its new event series with a symposium held in Frankfurt: it will be the inauguration of the ift s Transparent Building symposium. The new heading combines the former Glass Symposium and Facade Consultants Conference under one concept. This new approach is reflected in this year s motto. The event will focus on pertinent issues which arise when there is a demand for large transparent areas in modern buildings at the same time as a need for energyconscious design, and appropriate solutions will be presented. In practice it is becoming increasingly important, in the design and construction of modern transparent buildings, for facade contractors, consultants and glazing specialists to optimise their interaction and that cooperation between the different trades is improved. The heading is intended to show that the whole is more than the sum of its parts (Aristotle). Other issues to be considered in buildings with extensive glazing in the envelope are the selection of glass, light planning/light design requirements for the facade, maintenance and cleaning concepts, safety barrier glazing, automatic control systems for the implementation of energy concepts, as well as quality assurance in construction. There will also be an interesting exploration of bionic facade concepts or integrated facade designs.
