THE SYMPOSIUM THEME In recent years the recognition of the discipline of Architectural Technology has gathered momentum in the UK and internationally. With a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship this symposium aims to stimulate activity to further raise the profile of architectural technology through the sharing of experiences and opportunities in practice and academia. This one day event will bring together a range of professionals, academics and students working and studying in the field of Architectural Technology. For campus directions and map Click Here SPEAKER PROFILES Professor Sam Allwinkle PPBIAT MCIAT, Chartered Architectural Technologist Professor Allwinkle has a background in professional practice in construction (architecture and surveying) as partner and company director. He is currently Emeritus Professor Building Performance within the Institute for Sustainable Construction at Edinburgh Napier University and visiting Professor Architectural Technology at Nottingham Trent University and a Director of the Buildings Investigation Centre. His work for the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists has been immense and is currently Chairman of the Accreditation Board. Professor Allwinkle represents the Institute on a number of committees and is currently leading the Membership Futures project. Colin Orr BA (Hons) DipArch MArch PCIAT RIBA FHEA, Chartered Architectural Technologist Colin has a BA (Hons) in Architecture, a Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture, Master of Architecture and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Post 16). Colin is currently President of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. Colin is part of the Architectural Technology course team in the Department of Architecture and Design in the School of Technology at The University of Wolverhampton and was previously the programme leader for the degree in Architectural Technology at the University of Bolton (the first Accredited programme in the North West of England) for many years. In his role as President Colin is overseeing the work led by Professor Allwinkle on the Membership Futures which sits along aside his own research project looking at the Role of the 21st Century Professional Bodies in Today s Society. Dr James Harty, BArch MArchSc PPCert PGCert PhD RIBA MAA Copenhagen School of Design & Technology James Harty completed a PhD at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, where he looked at 'the impact of digitalisation on the management role of architectural technology'. He has worked with CAD since 1983 and BIM since 2005. He is a full-time senior lecturer at The Copenhagen School of Design & Technology in Denmark, teaching construction architecture. He qualified as an architect from Dublin in 1983 and completed a Masters there in 1988. He is married to Lene, a Dane, and he moved to live in Denmark in 1995. Finally, he is Irish, born in 1958 and left handed.

SPEAKER PROFILES Dr Dave Heesom, BEng (Hons) MSc PhD MCIAT MInstKT FHEA Reader in Building Information Modelling (BIM), University of Wolverhampton Prior to joining the University of Wolverhampton, David Heesom worked for WS Atkins Consulting Engineers on various projects including a large infrastructure project in Dublin, eventually becoming a 3D computer-modelling engineer for a large infrastructure project in the North West of England. David joined the University of Wolverhampton in 2000 as a Research Fellow and has held several key academic positions before becoming a Reader in Building Information Modeling. He has published in the field of BIM, 4D Modelling and visual simulation for the construction industry and has presented work at various international events including Germany, Eire, Canada, China and the USA. David has lead several KTP's in the above fields, working with regional companies to enhance their R&D and has been able to bring the knowledge obtained from these back into the curriculum. He has won several large European grants to assist in developing the skills of practitioners in the midlands region and is currently working in collaboration with CITB Construction Skill to deliver a range of BIM seminars and training sessions to practitioners from the UK construction industry. Leo Forte, MCIAT, McLean & Forte Partnership Leo is a senior partner of McLean & Forte Partnership. He is a Gold Medal recipient of CIAT in the Northern Ireland region and a Moderator for the Professional Practice Interviews run by CIAT. Leo has worked as an Architectural Technologist for nearly forty years and has a wealth of expertise and experience in the Construction Industry with projects in Northern and Southern Ireland focusing on Education, Commercial, Ecclesiastical, Private Development, Community and Leisure Buildings. Leo's presentation will concentrate on opportunities and innovation for Architectural Technologists in the 21 st century. Scott Kyson MCIAT, MCSD, BIID, Kyson Chartered Architectural Technologist, self-taught Designer and Entrepreneur, Scott Kyson established his own practice kyson design, aged 24. Now in its eighth year Kyson has a growing international reputation with a body of works on bespoke private houses which has received critical acclaim, and has been awarded CIAT's Alan King Award in 2007, 2008 and 2010, winner of the 2008 Hackney Design Award and runner-up for both Grand Designs 'New Build Home of the Year 2008' and WAN 2010 House of the Year Award. Being involved with television and magazine projects with the BBC and Grand Designs, Scott has also been recently appointed as an Assessor on CIAT professional practice interview board. Devoted to the minimalism philosophy, Scott s passion lies in bridging the gap between design and technology. He is currently writing a book on this topic, due for publication by the end of 2013.
