Construction 2012 Building and dwelling production 2012 September, 3rd quarter Cubic volume covered by granted building permits fell by 18 per cent in the third quarter of 2012 from last year According to the preliminary data of Statistics Finland's statistics on building and dwelling production, in July-September 2012 building permits were granted for a total of 7.3 million cubic metres, which is 17.7 per cent less than one year ago. The cubic volume covered by permits granted for residential fell by 9.7 per cent over the same period. Building permits granted and building starts, mil. m3, variable annual sum n the release the data indicated with an asterisk (*) are preliminary data. Cubic volume covered by granted building permits decreased by good 26 per cent in September n September 2012, building permits were granted for a total of 2.6 million cubic metres, which is 26.4 per cent less than one year earlier. This is indicated by Statistics Finland s preliminary data from statistics on building and dwelling production. The cubic volume covered by permits granted for residential decreased by 23.1 per cent in September. Measured by volume, permits for both detached and residential blocks of flats went down: detached by 27.8 per cent and residential blocks of flats by 23.5 per cent. The cubic volume covered by permits for terraced grew by 7.7 per cent in September from one year ago. The cubic volume covered by permits granted for other than residential was 28.2 per cent lower this September than in September. The cubic volume covered by permits granted decreased in September for all major building types: public service by 41.3 per cent, industrial and warehouse by 36.5 per cent, and commercial and office by 15.5 per cent. n September 2012, building permits were granted for 2,467 dwellings, which is 19.5 per cent less than one year earlier. The number of permits for detached decreased most. The volume of newbuilding dropped in September by nearly 11 per cent from one year back n September 2012, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production decreased by 10.9 per cent year-on-year. The volume of residential building construction contracted by 8.2 per cent from September. The slowdown in housing construction is especially visible in the volume of detached, which decreased by 10.5 per cent from last year. At the same time, the volume of construction of residential blocks of flats contracted by 5.4 per cent and that of terraced by 1.4 per cent. The volume of other than residential building construction went down by 13.5 per cent in September. n September, the volume of construction of industrial and warehouse diminished most, by 30.5 per cent from one year ago. The volume of construction of commercial and office fell by 12.9 per cent over the same period.
