Beck s Bytes Greetings! We had a lot of events in May and I would like to say a few words to acknowledge them. First off, we held our annual history and awards dinner. It was well attended and we had a fantastic speaker this year, Dr. Ed Cheung, who gave us a behind the scenes look at NASA along with some of his interesting work there. The PES chapter honored Suresh Channarasappa as their outstanding engineer of the year. In addition, Tom McDermott and Richard Stern were recognized for being elevated to the grade of fellow member, while Gerry Kumnik and David Edison celebrated their 50th anniversary as IEEE members. Congratulations to all these individuals, and many thanks to Kal Sen, Mey Sen, Dave Vaglia and Steve Mozelewski for organizing the event. I would also like to thank our publicity chair, Tom Dionise. Last month the 2015 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) was hosted here in Pittsburgh at the David Lawrence Convention Center. IEEE sponsors a $10,000 scholarship, and Tom served as the lead judge. Tom put together a terrific judging team and they selected an outstanding recipient, Alex Tacescu. You can check out this month's issue of the institute for more details about the event, the award and this year's award winner. The ISEF will return to Pittsburgh again in 3 years, so mark your calendar if you'd like to help out next time around. Finally, the WIE affinity group chair is vacant, so please contact me if you or someone you know is interested in this position. Thanks, and have a great month!
