Course 11 RPTL 420A Exemption: Comprehensive Evaluation INSTRUCTOR: Rebecca Speno, Esq. Administering any real property tax exemption can be daunting. However, few exemptions are as overwhelming on our assessors as the RPTL 420-a exemption. The issues raised by this exemption are complex and often walk the line of deciding what is a charitable cause, and what is education or even worse, what is religion. On top of this, local politics often factor into the analyses even though our local government leaders know that an assessor s clear mandate is to avoid such issues. This course will teach the assessor how to navigate the facts and circumstances of the RPTL 420-a exemption process. Specifically, this course aims to provide an approach for dealing with the questions and politics of a variety of 420-a exemption situations that an assessor may encounter. Course 12 Practical Assessment Administration CANCELLED.
