Chicago Street Sweeping Season Residents Reminded to Heed Temporary Parking Restrictions The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation s (DSS) seasonal street sweeping services began Monday, April 1. Residents are reminded to comply with temporary parking restrictions to that allow crews to clean the streets as thoroughly as possible. Residents are asked to be mindful of all temporary and permanent street sweeping parking restriction signage. To ensure curb-to-curb street cleaning, temporary parking restrictions are posted the day before the work is scheduled to begin on any street. Some arterial streets have permanent signage that specifies a once-perweek period when parking is prohibited for street sweeping. The DDS fleet of street sweepers help to keep our streets clean and prevent dirt and debris from entering the sewer - ultimately allowing for better drainage during a rain storm. The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation is responsible for cleaning more than 4,100 miles Chicago roadway. Residents interested in a 2013 street sweeping schedule for their community/area or those who would like to request street sweeping services, can visit their website, www.cityofchicago.org/dss or call 311. THE MAN WHO ADVERTISES HIS BUSINESS HAS ONE BRIDGEPORT NEWS - Page 3 Save the Date A Gift For Gail Fundraiser On August 12th, 2011, Gail Carnithan of Canaryville was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor that resulted in surgery and was followed by radiation. Her prognosis was good. Later, after a routine CAT scan she was then diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in her upper chest. 2012 held many treatments of chemotherapy and radiation, which we believe was successful. However, things took a bad turn regarding her brain surgery in 2011. Gail once again underwent surgery on Dec. 6th, 2012 for Hydrocephalus where a shunt was put in place to remove fluid from her brain. Her immune system had been so compromised from the all the chemo and radiation that she developed many other conditions such as shingles, pneumonia and a lifethreatening lung infection that placed her back in the hospital until a medically induced coma for months. Gail now needs to undergo a long-term rehab program. As you can see, it has been one battle after another for her. It has certainly been a very difficult journey for her to say the least! Just when Gail thinks she is all good and in the clear, she gets hit with something new. You can imagine all the medical expenses she endures. Gail s supporters have put together an organization to help her bear all of her current financial burdens and for ones she may face in the future. Gail's family and friends and supporters have put together a friendship party to help raise money to help ease her financial burdens. If you can, please come on out and support our cause to help Gail. Join us on Saturday, June 15th, 2013 at The Canaryville Club, 458 W. 45th Street, Chicago, IL. 60609 from 2PM to 7PM. $20.00 entrance fee per person in advance and $25.00 per person at the door. St. Gabriel Youth Group Maintains Prayer Vigil HAPPY 14 TH BIRTHDAY Lic. #B 463 THE MAN WHO ADVERTISES HIS BUSINESS HAS ONE Page 6 - BRIDGEPORT NEWS On Holy Thursday, March 28th, St. Gabriel Parish celebrated the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper. At the end of Mass, a solemn procession took place, that brought the Eucharist to the beautifully decorated altar of repose. The tradition of the Catholic Church is that people then pray silently before the Blessed Sacrament. The Youth Group made a commitment that they would maintain a prayer vigil that night, until the Church closed. We sincerely thank our Youth Group for their strong faith and for making this such a spiritually meaningful time!
