Obtaining her Bachelor in Architecture at the Institute for Architecture and Construction, Sofia, Bulgaria, she started out in the professional field as architect and urban designer. She has later on translated her interest in social space into academic research on the problematic of urban quality, completing her Masters and PhD at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. Her special studies and publications focus on space- body relationships and experience of space/place at base of developing analytical methodologies and interdisciplinary links in discourse, and teaching. Focusing especially on the theatre and analogous collective sites in the context of performance and foregrounding experience and consciousness in the passage between physical circumstance, sense and sensibility, she extends on theory of architectural space. She has extensive teaching/academic practice at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She has worked for more than 24 years at Bilkent University, Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and is currently a faculty member in the Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture, Famagusta, Cyprus.
