D ear delegates, Welcome to IMUN Middle School 2018! My name is Chiara Erriquez and as your Secretary General I deal with the supervision of the whole conference, from topics, to committees, to dais. My main responsibility is to make sure that everything works fine and my biggest desire is to witness your enthusiasm while debating. I honestly can t wait to see you all acting as delegates! I am a 23 years old student, currently studying Political Science and International Relations at Roma Tre University. Next year I would like to continue my studies with a master on Human Rights and multi-level governance. I live in a small town near Rome, I have one younger sister and a super lively boxer dog. I love traveling, watching tv series and spending time with my friends. The very first time I raised a placard I was 17 years old, as enthusiast and curios as you are right now. I attended 3 conferences, representing the Cote d Ivoire, the Netherlands and El Salvador. I enjoyed my time as a delegate so much that four years ago I decided to join United Network and becoming an active part of these incredible projects. Over the past months your directors and I have worked really hard to grant you the best experience: you will debate over stimulating topics, you will be challenged with alliances and resolutions and eventually you will also make new friends. The most precious lesson you will be given is that every opinion is equally important, no matter who you are or which country you represent. So, as a past delegate myself, here is my biggest advice: weather you are shy or outgoing, be involved and make sure everyone within your committee is. You are asked to represent a single Country, but your final task is to work as a group of Nations cooperating to achieve the same goal. Raise your placard, defend your Country and have fun! Model United Nations are the best opportunity to gain broader perspectives and new attitudes, after this experience you will be more confident and more conscious of the world we live in. I can t wait to see you debate and defend your Country. I am sure your resolutions will be great! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding your topics, your committees or your preparation, I will be more than happy to help you. Sincerely, Chiara Erriquez Secretary-General, IMUN Middle School 2018 sg.middleschoolroma@unitednetwork.it 3
