Enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities in Staffordshire The delightful village of Little Haywood is located on the northern edge of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire near beautiful areas of countryside but just 30 miles from Birmingham City Centre. Choice of activities at Cannock Chase Cannock Chase is the UK s smallest mainland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, at just 1200 hectares, but that doesn t mean there isn t plenty to do. There are miles of mountain bike trails to suit all ages and abilities as well as numerous waymarked paths (including the Follow the Dog trail and the Monkey Trail ) all starting from Birches Valley Forest Centre. Other activities include the fascinating sculpture trail, adventure play area a forest Segway experience or, if feeling brave, a high-ropes forest activity course with the thrilling challenge of high wires and zip wires over 40 feet in the air. For something more subdued, yet with an impressive history, you can also visit nearby Shugborough Hall. Once described as a perfect paradise it has been home to the Anson family since 1624 and is a rare example of a complete estate where mansion house, servants quarters, working farm and walled gardens can all be viewed. Shopping and facilities There are a few local facilities in Little Haywood, including two pubs and a general store but larger supermarkets can be found at Rugeley, Cannock and Stafford. The Guildhall Shopping Centre in the middle of Stafford incorporates the Market Hall and offers a wide range of shopping options. Other attractions in the town include an historic castle, the Gatehouse Theatre, museums, galleries and Stafford Leisure Centre for swimming, squash and gym classes. There are also numerous local events including the acclaimed annual Shakespeare Festival, Stafford Art Festival, the County Show and the popular gastronomic Stone Food & Drink Festival. Commuting for school, work or pleasure Haywood Grove is located on Coley Lane on the northern side of Little Haywood and is well positioned for travel, wherever you want to get to. It s not far to some excellent local primary schools, including Colwich C of E Primary (1 mile), Anson C of E Primary (1.3 miles) and St Bede s independent Preparatory (1.8 miles). For secondary education there are several options in Cannock and Stafford but the nearest is The Hart School at Rugeley (5 miles). There are 2 local railway stations at Rugeley and another in Stafford, where you can get a train to Birmingham in just over 30 minutes and London Euston in 1 hour 18 minutes. The M6 motorway (junctions 13) is just 8 miles away while the A51 is also close by and will take you north to Manchester or south to Birmingham. However, if you want to fly to more exotic locations then Birmingham Airport is less than an hour by car.
