WORKING WITH THE USERS A unique project has no off-the-shelf solution. We worked extensively with all the partner organisations to: develop the type of space needed to allow the activities to take place look for opportunities to add value through location of the spaces and the potential for sharing Above: For the International Institute for Product and Service Innovation for WMG at the University of Warwick, we identified and worked with the people with the best knowledge of specialist activities, as we are at NAIC. Opposite: View of the NAIC exterior and new landscape.
A COLLABORATIVE WORKPLACE The building is arranged to be open, to engage the public and encourage collaboration to: increase cross-disciplinary cooperation halve the time between first idea and production inspire the next generation with undergraduate teaching alongside cutting edge research View to Engineering hall Student Projects Reception Exhibition Cafe Above: Overview of the front of house areas: cafe shown in pink; reception and exhibition in yellow; student project area in turquoise. Opposite: NAIC has 1000 workstations for researchers working in 30,000m 2 of floorspace. The collaboration hub will encourage inter-disciplinary interaction.
ENGINEERING RESEARCH EXCELLENCE NAIC incorporates state of the art specialist research labs and precision engineering facilities, including: high performance engine testing labs acoustic chambers, thermo-fluid labs, air-flow testing and driving simulators adjacent workshops and test facilities for undergraduate programmes. CREATIVE DESIGN ENVIRONMENT A key component of NAIC is co-locating engineering excellence with fully functioning vehicle design studios. They include: two large vehicle modeling halls with internal and external viewing facilities advanced technology virtual reality review facilities supporting facilities including a paintshop and clay milling chambers Photo Simon Feneley Above: The design studios are capable of producing vehicles from concept sketches to full size prototypes.
