Alvina emigrated in 1882 at the age of three with her parents and four sisters on the S.S. Furnessia. Of interest: My great-aunt, Alvina, acquired her nickname Winnie from her first teacher at Boomer #7, the one-room rural school that Alvina and her siblings attended. The teacher thought that the name Winnie sounded more attractive than Alvina when spoken by a young child with a Danish accent. Rasmussen Family Chapter 5, Peter and Winnie (Rasmussen) Bondo 7/19/17 page 2

In 1897 when she was 18, Winnie Rasmussen married Oluf Peter "Peter" Bondo. About Peter Bondo: Peter Bondo, my great-uncle by marriage, was born in Boomer Township, Section 30, the oldest child of Laurits Christian Bondo and Karen Jensen/Henriksen, natives of Denmark. In 1872 when Peter was three years old, the Bondo family moved about seven miles, from the loess hills of southwestern Boomer Township to the prairie country in northeastern Hazel Dell Township. As of 2015 a great-grandson, Paul Christoffersen, owns and lives on the Bondo home place. in Section 11. Laurits Christian and Karen Bondo were charter members of St. Paul s Lutheran Church in Boomer Township, which was organized in 1881. After their marriage, Peter and Winnie Bondo farmed in Hazel Dell Township, Section 1. In 1930 Peter and Winnie retired to John Madison s acreage in Boomer Township west of St. Paul s, where Peter died of a heart attack in 1939 at the age of 70. After Peter died in 1939, Winnie remained on their acreage until 1945. Winnie then lived with her daughters, Alvina in Blair, Nebraska and then Emma in Omaha. Winnie remained in good health until shortly before her death, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha in 1975 at the age of 97. End of the Lives of Peter and Winnie (Rasmussen) Bondo section of the Rasmussen volume of Robert Christiansen's Family History. Rasmussen Family Chapter 5, Peter and Winnie (Rasmussen) Bondo 7/19/17 page 3

+++ The following eleven pages, through the end of this chapter, outline the history of the Peter and Winnie (Rasmussen) Bondo family. They are identical to eleven pages in the Peter Bondo section of the Christian Bondo and Karen Jensen Family Sketch in my St. Paul's Boomer-Neola Early Families report. They were last updated on 15 Mar 2015. < Oluf Peter Peter Bondo (24 Apr 1869 19 Oct 1939, conf. 1889) married Alvina Winnie Rasmussen (23 Aug 1878 19 Dec 1975) in Pottawattamie County with the St. Paul s pastor officiating on February 17, 1897. Winnie Rasmussen was the daughter of St. Paul s early members Lars Christian Rasmussen and Karen Marie Andersen who lived in Boomer Township just west of St. Paul s. Peter and Winnie Bondo farmed in Hazel Dell Township, Section 1. Around 1930, after their son, Elmer, married, Peter and Winnie retired to the John Madison acreage a quarter mile west of St. Paul s Lutheran Church on the north side of the road. Members of the Peter Bondo family continued to live on this acreage for over 70 years.
