FIRST IMPRESSIONS ABOUT THE PLOT LAYOUT, PLANNING, STREET LAYOUT AND NATRUE. first reading 4
CritiCal REIEW FIRST READING in the first reading of the site, we pointed out three different sites, but while mapping the site, it came clear that they are much more a continuous line of buildings, differented by the presence of the forest than three hard-bordered different sites. We started to define scenarios with simple, clear rules. But as soon as we started drawing, it came clear that there are more, finer, smaller rules needed. Also, some Rules proved themselves of no use, or had the same effect as other ones. 5

LARGE-SCALE EFFECTS LINDEN LEUEN A SCENARIO a rising GROUND PRICES 16
CritiCal REIEW scenario A it`s all about densification, especially in a way of additional buildings. In intendance, our methods mostly had the effect of new roads to access the new plots. this Scenario about densifying was made in general scale, on the plot scale but not into the scale of the houses itself. This caused always additional building activity as a result, but by regarding the amount of inhabitants, the existing houses could easily be converted to house more people. With a so-grown density, we thought about the implementation of new functions, but without getting precise about which kind fo functions, and where to place them. A 17

We attract gypsies to linden! B4 SCENARIO b falling GROUND PRICES RULE 4 GYPSYFICATION 30
CritiCal REIEW SCenariO B in this scenario, the rules caused either a growing or shrinking densification. Also, they led to very different outcomes in contradiction to scenario A, although the scenarios seemed to be quite similar. Whithin the scenarios of a growing forest and a gypsyfication, we remarked the changes in the road-use, as we think that the spatial diversification in the forest-scenario will cause higher speed on the roads, and the gypsies will occupy and use the roads, especially the inner streets in a different way. REFERENCE // CASABLANCA (MAR) REFERENCE // CAPE TOWN (SA) C1 SCENARIO C total LOSS OF CONTROL RULE 1 each owner enlargens his house as he likes it, but by guarding the plot borders! 35
CritiCal REIEW scenario C for this scenario, we made out three rules which, in the end, caused all either the same results or an unsolvably high amount of furthergoing small regulations. Neverthless, thinking about an uncontrolled growth of the houses proved the single-family-house to be much more adaptive to further needs, i.e. growing number of inhabitants, than you may think in a first way. It also would be imaginable, that in this scenario the use of the plots may change into small businesses... C 36

5_ PRIATE STUDENT HOUSING D2 SCENARIO d implementation OF A NEW FUNCTION UNIERSITY CAMPUS 43
CritiCal REIEW scenario D those scenarios were much more subjective, as we couldn`t make out any rules for them.. They showed a different threatening with the linkage of Linden to Leuven, whereas the Idea of an implemented Campus enforces this linkage, the sanatorium-scenario leads much more to an isolated Island -Solution.. Compared to other scenarios, the changes in this scenario came out just by what we imagined ourselves what would happen, but not following a rule that shows what in such a case would happen. general Conclusion after having examined those four scenarios, it seems that we have to blend them together, and also go further into the scale of houses itself, especially as they are mostly very solid and durable constructions which represent a certain value. 44
