DIRECTOR S BIO Robert Bailey directed at the Circle Repertory Company, Ensemble Studio Theatre, American Place Theatre, and the Actors Studio in New York; at the Williamstown Theatre Festival; and in Los Angeles at Pacific Resident Theatre, among others. He has directed for the Young Audience Program at the Los Angeles Philharmonic; has taught acting and directing on the graduate and undergraduate levels at UC San Diego and Brown University; and currently teaches directing and acting at USC. DIRECTOR S NOTE Increasingly over the course of our lives we are confronted with the reality of saying a final goodbye. It is perhaps hardest when the person in question is taken from us too early, but in truth all our relationships are unique and unrepeatable. In her extraordinary play, EM Lewis introduces us to a number of people placed in this unanticipated moment of parting and shows us how they will be compelled to change. She does not pretend that it will be easy, but she also does not allow her characters to dwell in bottomless grief. There are decisions to be made, tasks to carry out and, above all, lives which still must be lived. With compassion, unexpected humor and a total absence of sentimentality, the playwright leads us through one day in her native Oregon when average people must cope with the unimaginable. SPECIAL THANKS Jack Rowe
