Organization of American States The Organization of American States (OAS) is the world s oldest regional organization, dating back to the First International Conference of American States in 1889 and 1890. The OAS came into being in 1948 with the signing, in Bogotá, Colombia,, of the Charter of the OAS. The OAS was established to achieve among its member states: an order of peace and justice, to promote their solidarity, to strengthen their collaboration, and to defend their sovereignty, their territorial integrity,, and their independence. 9

In brief: 1 st National and International The cadastral organizations are, in general, well organized in Argentina, Uruguay and Mexico Guatemala: the cadastral organization is very young (3 years) Latin America cadastres have a taxation predominance Spain is very active in this region The language barrier is important There is a real interest from Argentina and OAS to organize a joint event with FIG in the region (Annual meeting?) 26
