Introduction Co-hosted by RIAS President, Iain Connelly and incoming President, Willie Watt, the RIAS Convention, the single most significant event in the Incorporation s annual calendar, is also one of the largest architectural conferences in Europe. The Convention is peripatetic, travelling round each of the Incorporation s six Chapters in turn. This year s event takes place in the UNESCO City of Design, Dundee, within the territory covered by the Dundee Institute of Architects. Our day and a half of discussion, debate, fellowship and celebration features an inspiring range of speakers, local and international. On both Convention days we assemble in the Malmaison Dundee, which overlooks the masterplanned new Dundee Waterfront (currently a landscape with rich potential following the demolition of the Hilton Hotel, the former municipal leisure centre/swimming baths and council offices). Our Friday speakers include inspiring voices from Oslo, Amsterdam, Bristol and, of course, Dundee. On Saturday morning our line-up promises to be plentiful, diverse and uplifting, including some of the world s highest end luxury retail design, the architecture of sound and visions of imaginary futures, including a foretaste of 2016 s Festival of Architecture. The RIAS is grateful for the generous sponsorship from Gartcarron Fire Engineering, Gilgen Door Systems UK, Senior Architectural Systems and Sturrocks Joinery which enables us to deliver our usual highly competitive prices. Sturrocks Joinery has also kindly offered a free drinks reception and tour of their production facilities prior to Friday evening s festivities.
