All correspondence to: Organised by the CIAM Free Flight Subcommittee of FAI - the Federation Aeronautique Internationale Ian Kaynes 7 Ashley Road Farnborough Hants GU14 7EZ England kaynes@btinternet.com 2012 FREE FLIGHT WORLD CUP INFORMATION 3/2/2012 This letter is being sent to all organisers of World competitions in 2012. Let me know if there is any inaccuracy in your address or other details of your competition as shown on the attached list of events or on the FAI calendar. Please note that it is essential to notify the FAI Office and also me if there is any significant change to the details published in the FAI Sporting Calendar for your competition. FAI SPORTING CODE Please note that World competitions are expected to be run to a high standard. The CIAM Free Flight Subcommittee and the CIAM Bureau have agreed that events which are not run in accordance to the Sporting Code will not be included in the World for the following year. The 2012 Sporting Code is available on the FAI web site. For free flight competitions you require both the general volume ABR and the specific free flight volume F1. The most notable changes for 2012 concern models; the changes to World rules concern calculating competitors scores after the results have been submitted. Please remember the 2008 change that F1P models may be flown to the F1P class rules alongside the F1C models and be included in the F1C World (and also for F1P Junior for junior fliers). This means that F1P models may be flown in F1C events whether or not the competition registration included F1P in the list of events. The F1P models are to be flown to the F1P rules (including 7 sec motor run) but with the same maximum used for the F1C flights. This is a Sporting Code rule, not an optional feature. Particular attention should be paid to: Checking of Sporting Licences. For every competitor, check that the Licence is valid for 2010 and record the Licence number. Model processing. This should include checking the identification markings of the models flown and the nationality and identification number on the model. Timekeeping. At least one official timekeeper should be provided at each starting position. Number of flights and maximum should be in accordance with the Sporting Code Any deviation which you need to make from the Sporting Code or the Organisers Guide should be announced in advance in your bulletin sent out before the contest (please send me a copy of bulletins) NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY Note that just before your event you should check the list of FAI member nations on the FAI web site and confirm that all entries you have received are valid. Competitors from a country on the suspended list are not allowed to participate in FAI events. JUNIOR WORLD CUP There are World events for juniors flying in F1A, F1B, F1P, and F1E. The juniors score points based on their position in the junior classification of the class and the number of juniors competing in the class. For each of these classes I prefer that the results for juniors are supplied to me as part of the general results with the juniors clearly marked, such as (J) after the name.. Note that, if there are 3 or more junior competitors, you also need to produce a separate classification of Junior-only results. In F1E these are the same percentage scores as those recorded in the open event. Send me a copy of the junior classification to help to confirm results. Note that juniors must be retained in the open results as well as appearing on the junior classification. Under the new F1C/F1P combination rules I prefer that you provide combined full results of the power competition and for each junior indicate if they flew only F1P models. 1

ORGANISERS - RETURN OF RESULTS After each competition I require the following information: a) The full results in each World class - these must include the full name (surname and full first name, not just initials), nationality (Please give nationality by the 3-letter abbreviation from the FAI list) FAI Licence number place and score in the competition. b) Mark all junior flyers with a (J) after the name or other clear identification. For juniors flying in the F1C event please indicate if the junior flew only F1P models. c) The names and nationalities of the three members of the FAI Jury and the address of the president of the jury. d) A description and explanation of any unusual organisation occurrences or contraventions of the FAI Sporting Code during the competition. Please note that you must supply the FAI Licence numbers of competitors. The CIAM Bureau have agreed that any events not providing FAI Licence numbers with the results may not be considered for inclusion in the World for the following year. This information should be sent to me by e-mail as soon as possible after the competition. I cannot see any reason for it to take longer than 7 days to send the information. Please also inform me if for any reason the competition was not held. Please do NOT send a paper copy as well as the email results. Results by e-mail: my preferred format is to have the results in an Excel spreadsheet, Word file, or plain text ASCII file. Please send the files to me by email (downloading from a web site is not a convenient route). Note that I will not accept files in PDF format. In each case the preferred format of each line of results is: place, name, country, licence number, scores in each round, total time in rounds, flyoff times but the order of the information on the line is not important. Please check your files for any virus. Any files with a virus may not be accepted by my ISP, but if they are delivered I will not accept them! JURY REPORT The Sporting Code requires all FAI Jury at CIAM events to submit a report. There is a form to simplify reporting on open internationals and I enclose a copy of this and it is also available from the CIAM web site CIAM forms section under CIAM documents - the link to the CIAM forms page is http://www.fai.org/aeromodelling/documents/forms Note that this is the detailed CIAM form, not the overall FAI jury report form. Please give it to the president of the jury and insist that he completes the form and returns it to me, preferably by email (in which case I don t need a paper copy as well). ISSUE OF RESULTS DURING THE YEAR The latest World results are available on the FAI aeromodelling competition web page and I update these pages as soon as possible after receiving results. Following the reorganisation of the FAI web pages the location of the current results and the results for previous years is still under development. The list of the latest leaders will appear at http://www.fai.org/ciam-events/world-cups/101-ciam/35330-f1-free-flight-world-cup-rankings and I will maintain the detailed results on the more information link on that page WORLD CUP DIPLOMA AND MEDALS Official diploma and medals for overall World winners are presented to winners at the CIAM Plenary meeting in Mar following the year of their victory. The winner in each class will hold the Official trophy for one year and will receive a medal and diploma. The second and third place flyers in each class will receive diploma. Ian Kaynes 2
