Location Pewley Fort is situated in a very private yet convenient location at the end of a private driveway off Pewley Hill and within a short walk of the open spaces of the Downs. The Property Pewley Fort is a unique family home of great character that has been created and extended from the original Victorian fort, which was built at the end of the 1800 s, as a mobilisation centre, used to store weapons and ammunition, and part of a chain of positions roughly along the line of the North Downs, forming a defence line to guard London. The threat of invasion was soon over and the forts were not used for long and taken out of service in the early 1900 s. The single storey section of the building is constructed of extremely thick concrete, as the ammunition stores, whilst the two storey section was added in the late 1950 s. The accommodation is very flexible and full of character and comprises a theatrical style statement of a mock drawbridge entrance and a mediaeval style reception hall. Also on the ground floor there is a cloakroom, utility room, a family/games room, three bedrooms and a bathroom. There is also a lovely large drawing room with study off. A feature sweeping staircase leads to the gallery style dining room with a balcony. The lovely kitchen/breakfast/family room leads off this area and has doors to the delightful roof terrace.
