Carbeth is a small hamlet with only a handful of rural homes, about 5½ miles north of Milngavie, one of Glasgow s most cherished suburbs. Glasgow (11 miles), Scotland s largest city, offers outstanding shopping, excellent theatres, world class galleries and a thriving business district. The city can be accessed by rail via train stations at Milngavie and Bearsden (each about 5½ miles). Both Milngavie and Bearsden have thriving town centres and excellent specialist shopping. The nearby village of Strathblane (2.5 miles) offers schooling at primary level whilst Balfron High School is the nearest state secondary school and is held in very high regard. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, an area of outstanding beauty, is only a few minutes drive to the north. Description Carbeth Guthrie is a fine Category B-listed mansion house of considerable character. It offers flexible accommodation over four levels with a self contained apartment on the lower ground floor which in the past has provided valuable letting income. The study has a gas fire set into an Adam style fireplace, with symmetrical fitted book cases to either side. The drawing room is magnificent with its detailed ceiling and wall plasterwork. It has a polished parquet floor and an Adam style fireplace with marble insert. The formal dining room has a pretty cornice, a four part bay window with lovely views over the private parklands and an open fire set into an intricately carved wooden fireplace. The floor is partly herringbone parquet. There are connecting doors to the pantry and to the kitchen. The kitchen is most substantial. It is well finished with recently painted units at wall mounted and counter levels, a four oven Aga and a centre island with an induction hob. A back door leads out to a patio and a staircase leads down to the lower ground level. On the lower ground floor there is a playroom with wood burning stove, a substantial garden room, a utility room/wc and a store. Also on the lower ground floor is a self-contained apartment. On the first floor are five bedrooms, three with en suite facilities and each very different in character. A laundry room, a maid s cupboard and a large linen cupboard with sink and a wc off the half landing complete the accommodation on this level.
