Situation in the Netherlands: times are still changing GA Luxemburg October 2007
Again about the change? (after Berlin, april 2004) In general, more and more, from Geodesy to: Geo-information and Geo-information-applications and Geo-information-management or Geomatics and surveying and Spatial information services
Geodesy or geo-information is losing it s own (separate) identity, but getting more important in it s geo-applications, Beside this: we are working on the NGII (National Geo- Information Infrastructure) There is still a lack of geodetic knowledge (but more and more in the back-office) And we see a revival of photogrammetry and aerial imaging, both for mapping and Google-like applications
In this overview: Markets Societies Education In the context: What are the changes? And: do you expect or recognize the same?
Markets: Geo-employment 75%public (4000) 25% private (1500) Economic growth New investments in infrastructure ( stop traffic jams ) From building to maintain (need of information) Governmental organizations: hands off, eyes on Lack of geo-educated employees Integration with other disciplines (civil, IT, environment) Efficiency is approving Bring the work to the market, keep knowledge in house Especially less (lower educated) technicians needed
Program: Space for Geo-information 20 mio Euro, mainly research (proposals) Institutes, public services, private companies (consortia) National Geo-Information Infrastructure (NGII) Pushed by laws and governmental initiatives Enormous impulse to the market From mapping to spatial data-bases Central role (responsibility) for local authorities and Kadaster Kadaster is more and more national geo-service centre Law on information services about underground infrastructure In parliament, Kadaster in central role, introduction 2008 Responsibility (and sanctions) for owners and diggers
