TECHNICAL DETAILS LOCATION Before of the year 1000 some people lived in small towns on the hills around Gaiole. People who came down downstream from Vertine, Montegrossi, S.Donato and S.Piero fed long the river Masellone that will be Gaiole, the principal centre of the whole town. In 1215 the birth and the development of an important street market were cause of attraction down. After, the market was moved to a bigger square today the centre of the village. Beginning from 1300 Gaiole and its community became part of the Chianti s League together with Radda in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti. Leagues were the politic administrative division made from Florence in the country area. From league flowed to Florence soldier and money or riots during the war. For four centuries the territory was boundary line and of battle between Florence and Siena. During this period incursions and reciprocal sacks followed one after the other. Gaiole was under Florence but in the XIXth century, during the short kingdom of Etruria, Napoleone enclosed it under the Sienese Department and so it remain until today after the unity of Italy.
