He originally came to in the late 1870s to work for the First National Bank but in 1880 moved to Texas to become secretary of the Lewis & Wheeler Lumber Co. He worked in a wide variety of styles from architectural revivals to modern designs popular in the first third of the twentieth century. His design versatility ranged across Classical, Colonial, Tudor and Renaissance revivals, upscale versions of the Foursquare and Bungalow, and includes two of 's finest examples of Prairie Style houses.
