The Age-Friendly Yarmouth Housing Forum that is planned for Thursday, March 30, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. will inform local seniors and younger residents, housing and service providers, and civic leaders about

making the best use of current housing inventory, and feasible options for expanding housing availability, affordability, security, and accessibility. The focus will be on accommodating the needs of those who live here while also contributing to the health and growth of our economy. This Housing Forum is about the development and use of physical buildings and space. In 2015, in collaboration with researchers from UMass-Boston, and supported by funding from the Tufts Health Foundation, the Town of Yarmouth conducted an assessment of the needs of residents ages 18 and older in relation to community assets deemed necessary by the World Health Organization (WHO) Age Friendly Communities Network. Loud and clear, the top priority need across age groups was Housing. The March forum to explore housing options has been in the planning process since results from the assessment were reported. As the first town on Cape Cod to be designated by the WHO as an Age-Friendly Community, Yarmouth has taken the lead and successfully encouraged other Cape Cod towns to assess their needs within the WHO framework. The shortage of available, affordable, accessible housing is the top priority in all of the half dozen towns that have completed an assessment of needs. The Age-Friendly Housing Forum will attract both attendance and media attention from all parts of Cape Cod. The next step after the forum is for the Age Friendly Yarmouth Planning Group to work on a Housing Resource Directory in collaboration with the Cape Cod Planning Commission and Barnstable County. 5.
