There are excellent views of nearby Lake Guernsey from the Cundall Family Ranch. Guernsey State Park has one of Wyoming s most attractive reservoirs and is known for its excellent boating opportunities and fine collection of historic 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps buildings and recreational facilities. Approaching the park from the east, high bluffs surrounding the park offer the first hint of the mountains to come. The bluffs block the wind from the park area and leave the waters warm and inviting for swimmers and water skiers. The museum is perched on a high cliff, overlooking the water. The building itself is made of hand hewn timbers and hand forged iron. The roof is framed with the timbers and covered with split cedar shakes, and the floors were formed by pieces of smooth flagstone. The Castle, with its giant fireplace and winding steps, leads to an observation area for a spectacular view of the park. - See more at: https://www.wyomingtourism.org/ The scenic area surrounding the Cundall property abounds in western history and offers many recreational opportunities Originally established as a private fur trading fort in 1834, Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best known military post on the Northern Plains before its abandonment in 1890. This grand old post witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories. The National Pony Express Association holds an annual commemorative re-run of the route from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. This historic trail runs through the Ft. Laramie and Guernsey area along nearly the same route as the Oregon Trail. This monument marks the pathway of the historic Oregon Trail where it passes through the Cundall Family Ranch. Guernsey Ruts (Deep Rut Hill) At this site, where the trail was forced away from the river and crossed a ridge of soft sandstone, the track is worn to a depth of five feet, creating some of the most spectacular ruts remaining along the entire length of the Oregon-California Trail. The geography of the area dictated that practically every wagon that went west crossed the ridge in exactly the same place, with impressive results. Located about three miles south & west of Guernsey.
