To: Nick Made by: Tuyet Date: 06 December 2013 REPORT ON BOYS SHELTER RENOVATION Since 10/2010, the Boys Shelter has suffered from severe leakage problems. This has been due to rainwater intrusion and water dumped after the boys finished hand washing their clothes. This caused water damage on the floor of the outside terrace. Another water leak issue was caused by a water pipe inside the toilet of the 2th floor. Despite previous attempts by plumbers they could not detect the source of the leak. Over the past three years, the roofs and walls of the shelter have become moldy and paint peeled off due to water leakage. Apart from the water leakage issue overtime some of the furniture and electrical appliances have become old and worn out and in need of replacing or fixing. Thanks to the generous support from AKRFC renovation on the Boys Shelter commenced on 9 October 2013. The following works were completed: 1. Painting: All of the outdoor and indoor walls of the Shelter (about 1,900m²), including the terrace, four bedrooms, computer room, study room, living room, dining room, kitchen, atrium and parking area. - The windows on the terrace were originally made of glass and corrugated iron sheets. This prevented proper airflow coming into the house at night time when all windows were closed. To rectify this part of the window areas were replaced with strong nets to allow for both security and airflow.
