Daylight, scale, warmth The Cummins Founda/on made its first grant to support architects fees for this school, with the desire to provide an alterna/ve to the standard, but uninspiring, school buildings being built in the baby boom era of the late 1950s and early 1960s. That design grant, repeated several /mes for other public facili/es, eventually became the Cummins Founda/on Architecture Program. .with architectural design excellence Defining Architectural Design Excellence 2012 AIA Committee on Design Great architecture is a triple achievement. It is the solving of a concrete problem. It is the free expression of the architect himself. And it is an inspired and intuitive expression of the client. J. Irwin Miller
.with architectural design excellence The VALUE of a commitment to EXCELLENCE MEDIOCRITY is EXPENSIVE It is expensive to be mediocre in this world. Quality has always been cost effective. The tragic in history that s always been made by the well-to-do is that they have feathered their own nests. Today we know that society does not survive unless it works for everyone. J. Irwin Miller, 1987
