Michigan Meridian starts at the mouth of the Auglaize River north of Toledo
Michigan s 2 Baselines 1815 Benjamin Hough surveyed the meridian and Alexander Holmes the baseline. Holmes didn t complete his work. Joe Fletcher was hired to complete the Holmes work. 1824 Joseph Wampler corrected inaccurate work by Fletcher creating 2 baselines.

Site of Stearns Mill This is the site of the oldest recorded document in Newaygo County. Liber 1, Page 1 was recorded on May 27, 1840. Stearns mill was located upriver from the confluence of the Little Muskegon and Big Muskegon Rivers.
John Brooks and Courthouse Square John Brooks set aside the Courthouse Square property which was put into a trust set up by John Ball of Grand Rapids in 1850. In 1867, the property was deeded out from the trust to the village of Newaygo so a County Courthouse could be built.
Newaygo County Courthouse Newaygo was the County Seat from 1867 until 1910 when White Cloud was chosen as the Seat of County Government.
1851 Newaygo County Notice that there were 2 townships. First recorded deed in Croton / 1840.
1869 Newaygo County As the county became more populated, more townships were formed.
1912 Newaygo County This is present day Newaygo Co. Notice the RR lines traversing the county.
White Cloud City Hall The White Cloud City Hall became the County Seat in 1910 with the County leasing the building for several years, then purchasing the building some years later.
The Current White Cloud Airport White Cloud deeded this piece of property to Newaygo County to be used as an air-port in 1929. Currently the City of White Cloud owns the facility.
