Rotary District D9800 ROTARY CLUB OF GISBORNE Bulletin 2010 2011 Edition 14 5 th October 2010 LAST WEEK: FAREWELL PP BARBARA! Our meeting was graced with most members and partners, together with friends of Rotary, to farewell PP Barbara Fletcher who is moving to live permanently in Brisbane. Barbara joined the Gisborne Rotary Club in 1996, was Club Secretary in 2000-2001, and Club President in 2001-2002. Since then Barbara has capably handled the role of Counsellor to incoming and outgoing Rotary Exchange Students. We will miss her! With PP Martin Taurins, Vice President, in the Chair, the meeting moved to Chairperson PP John Scott, who gave Barbara a This is Your Life presentation with his usual humorous flair. PP Elaine, PP Barbara and PP Martin PP Elaine Gregory, a close friend and companion of Barbara, told how they met and how Barbara will be missed, while at the same time thanking her for all her willing assistance to members and the Club. After dinner, a special celebration cake was served and then Barbara was presented with a gift of flowers from President Philip, who was unable to be present. PP Martin formally presented Barbara with a gift from the Club and wished her well in her new life in Brisbane, at the same time thanking her on behalf of all present for her warm friendship and her continued willing support on all occasions. GSC CHAPLAINCY The school s Sausage Sizzle at the Gisborne Market last weekend was supported by club members Kay J, Kevin M, Diana T, Pat & Jacek B, offering time and giving. Thank you. NEW CLUB S PROJECT The new Rotary Club of Melbourne Park has announced its first project - a search for Melbourne s Best Busker - at the City Square on Thursday 7th October from 6.30 8.30 pm, as part of Melbourne Music. A short list has been chosen to perform, and a crowd is needed, and Rotarians of D9800 are invited to attend and support this venture. Although attendance is free, the Club is hoping for a gold coin donation from onlookers to help vote for the best performer. CRICKETING FELLOWSHIP The R.I. Fellowship of Cricketing Rotarians is conducting a Rotary Cricket Festival in Swan Valley (WA) from 24 29 October, and is hoping for support from all Australian Rotarian cricketers. Teams will be from most Australian states, New Zealand, and from India and Pakistan, as well as individuals from Great Britain taking part. Participants and friends are staying at the Vines Golf Resort and Country Club. See www.rotarycricket.org
