N. Chetty Road, adjacent to Vani Mahal. A garbage bin kept on the pavement blocks the way for pedestrians. The pavement is also uneven and risky to walk on. The surroundings are unhygienic and often littered with garbage. Pedestrians are forced to walk on the road risking their lives at the busy junction. I appeal to the officials concerned to repair the pavement and relocate the garbage bin R. Narasimhan, T. Nagar, Ph: 9444021168 Sir, I am a resident of Jubilee Road which links Thambiah Road with Arya Gowda Road, West Mambalam. The road was one-way and entry was allowed only from Thambiah Road side. But it was made 2-way recently, and the increase in vehicular traffic is causing problems for pedestrians, especially senior citizens and students. The pavements are encroached upon and pedestrians are forced to walk on the road, thereby risking their lives Many riders on noisy motorbikes often drive Pedestrian woes in Jubilee Road Appeal to renovate Panagal Park very fast without bothering about the safety of pedestrians or those crossing the road. I often see police patrol vehicles passing but they take no action against the speedsters. The road has potholes and must be relaid soon. I appeal to traffic officials to either control the speed of vehicles by installing speed breakers or restore 1-way traffic on the road. Chennai Corporation should get rid of encroachments on the pavements. R. Viswanath, Ph: 97899 41136 No action taken to repair bridge in Corporation Park Sir, With reference to the letter Damaged bridge in Corporation Park poses danger published in Mambalam Times (Feb. 11, 2018 issue), only a couple of badly damaged planks in the bridge in Corporation Park, 1 st Avenue have been removed. The bridge, located near the fountain, continues to pose a danger to users. They can trip and Sir, Chennai Corporation has taken up renovation of 5 major parks in the neighbourhood. Similarly, it should also renovate the most popular Panagal Park in T. Nagar. Many youngsters and senior citizens use this park daily. It needs to enhance greenery, repair the Appeal for speed breakers in North Road, West CIT Nagar fall and the protruding sharp nails can cause grievous injury. Further, the gaping holes from where the planks were removed pose an added danger. I appeal to Chennai Corporation to repair or dismantle the bridge immediately. Dr. Chidambara Kumarasamy, 53 rd Street, Ashok Nagar. Ph: 94448 89994 walkers path and play equipment, and provide more seats for visitors. I also suggest installation of a channel music system for the benefit of the visitors. V. S. Narayanaswamy, 31, Motilal Street, T. Nagar Unauthorised digging by internet service providers Sir, At around 3 a.m on Feb, 26, my sleep was disturbed by the noise of digging in front of my house in Thiruvengadam Street, West Mambalam. When I looked out of the window, I saw two workers digging a pit close to a lamp post. When I enquired, they said that they were digging a pit for a post for an internet service provider. When I asked if they had sought permission from Corporation officials, they hurriedly closed the half dug pit and left. Later, I came to know that they had dug similar pits elsewhere on the street for posts. This raises several questions. Why were they digging the pits clandestinely at night when people were sleeping? It was clear that they did not have permission from Chennai Corporation or TNEB to carry out the work. If, in the process of digging, sewage lines, metro water lines or EB power cables are damaged, who will set them right? The officials concerned should take action against service providers who damage public properly while installing their infrastructure. I also suggest the night patrol police keep a vigil on such unauthorised activities carried out at night. D. Subbaram Sir, I am a resident of North Road, West CIT Nagar. When the road was re-laid after the floods in 2016, two speed breakers, one in front of Vasavi Women s Hostel and the other near Patanjali shop were removed. Now, with no mechanism to slow down vehicles, speeding has become a norm, especially by bikers. They do not stop for pedestrians waiting to cross the road. They even weave through pedestrians crossing the road oblivious of the danger of hitting them. I appeal to the authorities to install speed breakers on the road.
