Faces Around Residence Residence Life & Education: The Residence Life Team (RLT) would like to officially welcome you to residence! Residence can be considered one of the most unique classrooms on a campus. It s important to remember that living in residence is an opportunity to learn and grow individually, but also as a part of the Ryerson University Housing & Residence Life community. Every student has a Residence Advisor (RA) living in their community whose role is to develop community within residence. Every student is assigned an Academic Link (AL) who supports our students academic transition based on faculty or program. These roles, as well as our Varsity Link and Programming Link are all upper-year student leaders. Residence Service Desks (RSD) Residence Service Desk Agents are the first face you see when entering the residence communities. This team maintains 24/7 access control for HOEM, ILC, and Pitman Hall as well as guest sign-ins and packaging tracking. They are a great information source for resources in and around residence as well as across campus. The residence service desks are staffed by student leaders during the day and security officers overnight & on weekends. Residence Offer Information Guide 10

Frequently Asked Questions When is move-in day? Move-in Day is on Sunday, August 26th, 2018. More information will be shared about move-in day in early August. When can I find out my room number? Room numbers are released approximately a week before move-in day, to allow you to label your belongings with your room number in preparation of move-in day. Can I know who my roommate is before I move in? No, due to privacy policies that the University is bound by, we cannot disclose your or your roommate s information to one another. You will meet your roommates on move-in day. If you re worried about what items you ll share, remember that you ll be in downtown Toronto, so it s easy to pick up any items you may need. Can I visit the residences before I move in? Absolutely! Tours of the residences are available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00pm until August 1st, 2018. Just check in with us at the Housing & Residence Life Office, Room 100, Pitman Hall. To register for a tour, visit our webpage at ryerson.ca/housing/visitus. Can I bring my own mattress or other furniture for my room? There is no extra storage space in the residences so we cannot store any of the current furniture that is in your room. For this reason, you are not able to bring your own furniture. The furniture provided must remain in the room. Residence Offer Information Guide 13
Can I bring a fridge? Yes, you can bring a mini-fridge (3.2 cubic feet) for your room. Can I bring a microwave/toaster/kettle/coffee maker or any other appliances? You can bring these appliances to residence, however you are not allowed to use them in your room. If you would like to use the toaster or kettle, etc. you can do so in the lounge kitchen on your floor of Pitman or ILC. Pitman and ILC lounges already have microwaves. HOEM has microwaves within the individual suite kitchens, and you will be provided with a kettle and toaster as well. Will there be a place to store my trunk, suitcases, etc.? Anything you bring with you will need to be stored in your room. Try to pack most of your belongings in collapsible/recyclable containers. Do I need insurance? Yes! Ryerson isn't responsible for loss, damage, or theft of money or personal belongings within your room. You are advised to make sure your room door is shut and locked when you leave. We strongly recommend you carry some form of personal property & liability insurance, covering items which you have in your room. The insurance is inexpensive, especially when you consider the cost of replacing your clothes, computer, etc. Can I switch my room? There are specific periods during the school year when you can request a room switch. These periods are November and February. Room switches are not permitted before November to allow for sufficient time for roommates/suitemates to develop an understanding of each other and their surroundings. Please note there is a $250 room switch fee associated with requesting a room switch. During the summer months we are unable to accommodate room switch requests. Residence Offer Information Guide 14
