ABOUT THE LOGO NUCLEUS is defined as the central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth. Inspired of this concept, UAP takes this role as the nucleus in relation to the architect and the architectural profession in the borderless environment called ASEAN. UAP, now, more than ever, equips the architects with the necessary skills and competencies, and concurrently empowers the profession through the provision of a stable foundation, for both to confidently move towards the fastapproaching and challenging greater global collaboration. The ten (10) petal-like images emanating from the nucleus represent the 10 ASEAN member-countries with UAP at the center, working in alliance with the other professional groups of the other member-countries. UAP NATCON 41 Warm Greetings to the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) as you celebrate your 41st Annual National Convention, entitled Empowering Architects Towards ASEAN Integration. The ASEAN Integration, with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) and ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services (AFAS) being its core, had caused numerous opinions and inquisitive mindset for many Filipinos. The most dominant question asked was, IF WE ARE READY. Readiness however can easily be answered by the process in which our government has prepared for the challenges ahead. Both advantages and disadvantages are taken into account, to further improve our strengths and plans have been set to overcome weaknesses. The opportunities envisioned include the attraction of more Federal Direct Investments (FDI s), increased relationship and partnership with the Economic community, awareness of best practices in the different industries and enhancement of different skills through our Academe. Greater competition however must not be ignored, regardless of the vastness of opportunities. This is why, we recognize the need for conventions such as this to further increase the competencies of the professionals and eventually create a more competitive advantage. The Architect is one of the most highly valued Profession in the country today. It is but necessary that multiple measures and initiatives are taken to further enhance the knowledge of every individual to stay at par and keep every program by the UAP Organization aligned with the requirements of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). This year also marks the beginning of the ASEAN Economic Community where Malaysia acts as the inaugural secretariat. In this day of age, where borders brought about by Globalization are rapidly becoming unseen, liberalization becoming the norm; the demands and expectations in every aspect is being felt the strongest. The objectives of the integration of the 10 Southeast Asian Nations: economic growth, improvement of cultural relations, creation of more opportunities has been the heart of every conversation and it is only fitting that our theme for the 41st Annual National Convention, Empowering Architects Towards Asean Integration be aligned with these objectives. A good leader encourages competition; a better leader encourages healthy competition. The difference between that two is that the latter s main goal is to inspire the other for the benefit of the common good. The motive should always be for the greater good of the majority, for the continuous improvement of not only oneself but towards the development of one another. The activities set forth by the Organizing Committee encourage healthy competition by equipping the architects with the right tools to prepare for the integration and the inevitable challenges that lay ahead. Gabitan, uap National Executive Vice-President It is with great honor and privilege that I extend my warmest gratitude to the delegates, exhibitors, speakers and guests of the PRC s five (5) times Most Outstanding Professional Organization in the Philippines the United Architects of the Philippines, as we undertake the 37th National Convention of Architects and Convention Exhibits at the SMX Convention Center from April 16-18, 2015. This year marks a new era in the ASEAN region, the start of the ASEAN economic integration which is a prelude to the GATS 2020 implementation of cross-border practice. Indeed, the theme of this years convention UAP Beyond Borders: Empowering Architects Towards ASEAN Integration is very timely as we continue and enhance the programs and strategies aimed at equipping Filipino architects with the appropriate tools in view of a larger community of practicing professionals. Filipino professionals, including architects, would now have to develop their competencies to meet higher levels of expertise in various fields of specialized practice as a result of more diversified and complex services. This can be achieved through formal education by taking masters and doctorate degrees or through professional practice and continuing education in focused areas of practice. The United Architects of the Philippines, as the Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization of Architects (IAPOA), is committed to provide the needed support and training to develop Filipino architects to be competitive to the demands of the global market. The current administration has initiated a scholarship and thesis assistance program in order to attract more member architects to complete their higher levels of education. On the other hand, the creation of Specialty Councils in different fields of practice are being finalized to institutionalize the recognition of specialists or experts in various fields and formulate their respective non-formal mode of education or trainings that would be made available to those aspiring to be accredited as specialists. Let me extend my congratulations to the UAP 2015 National Convention Organizing Committee for choosing a very timely and relevant theme, and setting a line-up of seminars and activities that will bring forth the ideals of Filipino architects in the global scenario. We praise and thank the Lord God Almighty, the Supreme Architect of the Universe for the blessings and guidance He has given UAP through thick and thin. It is with my great pride and pleasure to have serve this prestigious organization from its inception and birth way back in the early seventies as Regional Coordinator for Central and Northern Luzon reaching out to our colleagues to join and be united in this organization up to the present as Area Vice President for Area A, representing the same area of responsibility. I am thrilled to witness how we Filipino architects will showcase our prowess in designing and building structures that will define the skyline and the landscape of the ASEAN Region. UTTOH, uap National Auditor Assalamu alaykum warahrmatullahi wabarakatuhu It s about time that Empowering Architects Towards Asean Integration become not just a theme but a realization. It took one strong-willed man with a tenacious foresight to lead this Country and manage the spearheading of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) making this integration naturally imminent. Ironically, the Filipino has been known as a follower that seems to be always short of being a leader; instead he would rather be the unsung hero of a very difficult project. One of the many aspects to fully commit to such integration is to belong to a strong and united organization that gives importance to an Architect s professional behaviour and contribution to the growth of its members. The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), the Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization of Architects (IAPOA) shall remain to be for the Architects and will continue to inspire its members to become leaders. Let us give everyone the confidence that we are equipped to fair play in the industry towards a common goal of global development. No matter how much we were bombarded with the challenges and questions of our integrity as an Organization, the law is at our side. These are just normal tests for a strong UAP, nevertheless, we should not be weary being in the service. We should remain certain that no matter how they look for reasons to disengage us, or question the extent of our role in the field of infrastructure and national development, they are welcome to find that there are no skeleton in our closets. The UAP s 41st National Convention simply because this convention caps the year long celebration of the 40th foundation of the *NO. 1 and 5 time **PRC-APO of the year awardee, the United Architects of the Philippines. Let me share a short odyssey I read on being against all odds and surviving; Sir Ernest Shackleton s Antarctic expedition of 1914 would ultimately fail, but the hardy crew he mustered would still win honor and recognition for its ability to survive against the odds. After their ship Endurance was crushed in pack ice, the crew abandoned the plan to cross Antarctica on foot and the aim became merely to survive. Over two years, Shackleton led the crew across ice floes, then in lifeboats to a camp on Elephant Island where for six months the main group would subsist on seal meat and blubber. Shackleton took five men around the island to the north and then across 800 miles of treacherous ocean to South Georgia Island. He then hiked with two others for 36 hours across the island s uncharted interior to a whaling station with another three months to go before he could safely reach the crew left on Elephant Island. He later wrote, We had suffered, starved and triumphed, grovelled down yet grasped at glory We had reached the naked soul of man. 26 Congratulations to all the HARDWORKING members of the organizing committee headed by no less than Arch. President, PFPA On behalf of the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA), the umbrella organization of forty-three (43) Accredited Professional Organizations (APOs) recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), allow me to convey my most cordial felicitations to the general membership, participants, organizers, exhibitors and sponsors of the 41st UAP National Convention and Conex 2015 to be held on April 16-18, 2015 with the theme: Empowering Architects Towards Asean Integration. The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) plans steps toward full economic integration among its 10-member countries with 600 million residents and 285 million workers this year, including free mobility of professionals and highly skilled workers. To realize the full potential of the AEC to deliver more and better jobs, decisive action is necessary, including better management of structural change. Deeper regional integration offers immense economic prospects, but translating these gains into shared prosperity and equitable development requires robust labor market institutions. For us professionals, there are new realities, new opportunities, and new challenges in line with this integration. And we must have the resolve, the flexibility and the creativity to formulate new policies to take advantage of these new opportunities and meet these new challenges with regards to the ASEAN Integration. Through participative and interactive seminars integrated in this event, we will have an opportunity to engage in meaningful mutual exchange. And as we evaluate our strength and competitiveness, we hope to come up with appropriate programs that address the various needs of the architecture profession in the Philippines to arrive at a sense of the collective in synchronizing regional and national priorities and policies. As we face various changes, both within the Philippines and across the globe, I hope that we will take the opportunity offered by this UAP Annual Convention to learn from each other and freely debate the question of the direction for which we should aim at. Furthermore, I hope that this will culminate in meaningful outcomes and that the existence of the United Architects of the Philippines will come to be of even greater value as a result. ASEAN integration is a buzzword and topic for many discussions in nearly every professional conferences and gatherings. The advent of ASEAN Economic Community this year is not going to result in immediate changes in the ASEAN labor market. As economic integration progresses overtime, the region may observe structural changes that enhance employment prospects. But those changes will take time. However, policy makers will need to start preparing for such changes now. Therefore, the United Architects of the Philippines endeavors to be at the forefront for Empowering Architects Towards Asean Integration. Director, 41st National Convention The journey of being at the helm of our 41st UAP National Convention with the theme Empowering Architects Towards ASEAN Integration has given me great pleasure and a sense of accomplishment contributing to the UAP. What is overwhelmingly heartfelt was the collaboration and professionalism of the kind-hearted member-architects of the Organizing Committee, consistently inspiring each to bring out the best in every member. The desire to elevate the level of this convention was the real motivation and the shared feeling among the members. With this came the long hours of planning, designing and discussing our dreams for this convention to come to a reality. This may probably be the best way, should there be something higher, to describe the common objective of all. I will always remember this feeling with fondness and cherish all the memories I have and the new friends I have made. I feel so fortunate to have been of service to the UAP in this way and I am grateful to its present leadership, Ar. Ma. Benita Regala, for providing me this opportunity. I wish that everyone is able to have a good experience from the 41st National Convention and likewise be able to bring home good memories. For this year, the UAP will be delivering the 41st National Convention to a higher level to be able to be at par with its ASEAN partners. This year 2015, the Philippines will join the other 9 ASEAN member-nations in the process of integration, as part of the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement. Allow me to quote what the brilliant American writer James Baldwin said: Between 1917 and 1941, the ocean, inconceivably, had shrunk to the size of a swimming pool. As we open our doors so shall doors be opened for you. We are now going to be part of the movement towards globalization. The world will be slightly smaller with this Integration and the practice of our profession will transcend our geographical borders. As we open our doors to a broader horizon which we term as ASEAN, it is probably normal to have a sense of apprehension in relation to our professional practice. Actually, many foreign Architects who have specialized in various fields in architecture have practiced in the Philippines for quite some time now, likewise, for Filipino architects who have worked in foreign countries. Some of these fields, which we, practicing architects in the Philippines may also engage in, include facade design, building traffic specialist, sound and acoustic specialist,certified LEED specialist, Quantity Surveyor, Project management, Materials Specialist, and many others. With the ASEAN integration, 10 ASEAN countries including the Philippines, will open its doors to architects from all over the region. It is best that we, as architects, be globally competitive by equipping ourselves with the knowledge and skills required by our profession. This may be a sort of Baptism of Fire for many of us, but as the old folks say: You will be better for it. Warm regards to all. 29

Esa Mohamed UIA President Malaysian architect and town-planner Esa Mohamed has been elected UIA President during the UIA General Assembly, which took place in Durban, South Africa from 7 to 9 August 2014. Esa Mohamed will undertake the presidency of the International Union of Architects for the triennial period 2014-2017. He succeeds French architect Albert Dubler. He is the founder and director of Akitek Jururancang (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (AJM), an architectural and planning firm in Kuala Lumpur. He is the author of prestigious architectural projects in Malaysia, such as the Subang Jaya township, the masterplans for the city of Kuala Lumpur and for the administrative capital of Putrajaya. He has also launched large-scale works in China, Pakistan, India, Australia and Saudi Arabia. Esa Mohamed received numerous awards among them The Aga Khan Award for Architeture in 2001 for the Datai Resort, Langkawi. Between 2008 and 2011, Esa Mohamed has been a UIA Council member, and then Vice-President of the Union from 2011 to 2014. He is a member of the UIA Commission for Professional Practice. JONATHAN V. MANALAD, uap Arch. Jonathan Manalad has an extensive professional practice both as an architect and academician that spans to twenty years, from 1994 to present. He holds a Master s Degree in Architecture, major in Community Architecture and minor in Housing from the University of the Philippines. He obtained his Bachelor s Degree in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas in 1993 within which, he had been sent as an international exchange student to the University of Greenwich in Kent, England that exposed him to British-based architecture curriculum and brought him to key cities in Europe and explored its major built environment wonders. His early exposures to international design practices has been his tool to be an effective design practitioner and academician. From 2000 up to present, he is actively involved as Assistant Professor at the University of Santo Tomas College of Architecture where he is currently serving as the Architectural Design Coordinator. His position calls for him to conceptualize programs within the department and oversee its implementation to provide effective delivery of the Design courses all in its five levels (1st year to 5th year), which is considered to be the backbone of the Program. As an architect and environmental planner, he heads an independent architectural firm J.V. Manalad Design, Planning and Construction. His project involvement ranges from commercial, institutional, academic and residential undertakings. Currently, he is heavily involved with major academic institutions in their redevelopment and modernization efforts as its architect and design consultant. Ana S. Mangalino-Ling, fuap, apec ar., asean ar. Ar. Ana S. Mangalino Ling s love for Architecture can best be exemplified by her belief that architecture nurtures and the ability to create excellent architectural masterpiece equates to fulfillment of life, to offer inspiration and to leave behind legacies for the future generation. CHRIS TIU UAP NATCON 41 Chris Tui is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the Rain of Shine Elasto Painters in the Philippine Basketball Association. Aside from being a professional basketball player, he is a also a TV host, commercial model, politician and entrepreneur. He is the host of the TV show IBILIB: Wonders of Horus televised in one of the major TV channels. Chris earned his Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering degree and Minor in Chinese Studies from Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City. He was formerly the Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman of Barangay Urdaneta in Makati City. He was also named Favorite Athlete in the first-ever Nickelodeon Philippines Kid s Choice Awards in 2008. Among the other awards garnered by Chris are the Loyola School Awards for Leadership and Service in 2008, Lingkod TV Awards in 2010, Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Award in 2013 and the MITv Gawad Kamalayan Natatanging Informative Program Host in 2015. SERENE PANG Serene is a long-time member of the International Color Marketing Group (CMG), and is actively involved in the annual International Color Marketing conferences. Trained at the School of Architecture in the National University of Singapore, Serene has worked in various countries within the architectural, building & color industry, specifically within Asia Pacific. Her knowledge within the field of color merchandising trends often renders her sharing sessions highly informational and interesting. Being well informed of the current & future color directions, Serene is actively involved in the fields of color marketing and consultancy. She conducts color seminars at various private forums for her clientele in the home decor industry. Often tinged with a touch of humor, her sessions on the use of color in selling, color & design and color & branding are highly popular and well-received by her audience. Due to his wide technical expertise, Johannes de Jong, MSc., Eng. functions as the senior technical expert and is presently the Head of Technology for KONE Major Projects globally. His expertise is used to minimize both the clients project risk and KONE s project risk to a minimum. Johannes is a member of the Advisory Group of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) and of several technical workgroups of the European Elevators Code Committee. He is also recognized as a senior elevator technology expert in the world, and has received several awards and mentions for his work. He has been involved in many of the world s tallest and largest buildings. LEOVIGILDO N. FERRER JR. Leo is a registered Mechanical Engineer with fifteenteen (15) years experience in the field of industrial plant construction, building construction and facilities management, electro-mechanical design, Water/Waste Water Treatment Equipment, business development and client relationship management. Leo worked as a volunteer to the Philippine Green Building Council. Formerly, the Inception Committee Chairman of the BERDE Green Building Rating system, Leo put together the framework of the rating system which was used for public comment and eventually released for piloting. Jao had created life-size, three-dimensional models of the Eco House which were exhibited at the Manila Construction Show in SMX Convention Center in 2008 the LuzViMinda Eco House, in 2009 the Eco Jao Bahay Kubo - a carbon neutral house model, both of these became a headline in the Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper & in 2010 the James Hardie Eco House. In 2014 a few months after the typhoon Yolanda hit the eastern Visayas islands in the Philippines, he launched the Star Rise Eco House & Diamond Eco House model of an affordable climate resilient housing that can withstand magnitude 8 earthquake & 320kph typhoon. He was the Philippines representative to the Asian Productivity Organization conference in Singapore in March of 2013. He constantly updates his knowledge on green design and architecture by attending international seminars held in London- the EcoBuild Expo, in New York- the Greenbuild & the World Architecture Festival in Singapore, among others. Edilberto F. Florentino, fuap, apec ar., asean ar., piep, likha awardee 60 Ar. Edilberto F. Florentino, one of the principal architects of E. Florentino3+ Associates, is a product of the Mapua Institute of Technology, which recognized him as the Outstanding Mapuan in Architecture in 1992. Later, he attended postgraduate studies at the University of the Philippines, as an honorific scholar crossenrolled in Civil Engineering on Structural Sciences. He was Member of the Board of Architecture from 1993-1994 and was chosen the Outstanding Professional of the year 2002 in the field of Architecture by the Philippine Regulation Commission. Today he is an Accredited Arbitrator and Mediator of the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission. Ar. Florentino is past Chancellor of the College of Fellows of UAP. As President of the League of the Philippines Architects, he was part of the Negotiating Panel that formed the UAP; he is a Past President of UAP-Quezon City Chapter and has been continuously involved in legislation for the profession, having worked towards the legislative approval of Architecture Act of 2004. Aside of being an architect of note, he is also a registered Environmental Planner, and holder of fourteen (14) approved patents on building technology. Having received numerous awards and citations, in 2006 he was bestowed the UAP Likha Gold Medal, the highest award given to a UAP member, and in 2012 the Gawad Gintong Likha at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

MARIE STEPHANIE N. GILLES, uap, piep Architect MARIE STEPHANIE N. GILLES is a registered architect and licensed environmental planner. Soon after taking the Licensure Board Exam for Architects, she took a 3-year course in Italy at the Centro Internazionale di Studi under a scholarship from a German Foundation, where she was appointed professor while finishing her academic coursework, similar to her task as Teaching Associate at the UP College of Architecture while doing her masteral course. In 2008 during the Diamond Jubilee celebration of St. Joseph s College QC, she was awarded as the Most Outstanding Alumna in the Field of Architectural Design by her alma mater, where she graduated as class valedictorian in both elementary and high school. In April of 2013 she obtained her Master s Degree in Architecture at the University of the Philippines -Diliman, where she is currently taking a graduate course at the School of Urban and Regional Planning, hoping to pursue a PhD specialization on Environmental Management. In June 2014, she successfully passed the licensure board exam for Environmental Planners, her PRC license being #911. She is currently the Principal Architect of SNG Design Enterprise, a dynamic service-oriented design firm that has had projects all over the country and even abroad during its more than 2 decades of service. At the United Architects of the Philippines-Diliman, she holds the position of Continuing Professional Education Director and is the Head of the Capacity Building Group of the UAP Emergency Architects. Her corporate social outreach involvement has led her to devastated areas such as Tacloban & Roxas, assisting in organizing seminars to architects on disaster-resilient design and in Bohol, where she is helping to restore churches destroyed by the recent earthquake. As Chairman of the UP Planners Organization, she spearheaded the collaborative work of UP PLANO with Workshop Architecture, a European-based technical team that is helping to provide shelter to homeless street children in Tacloban. She has collaborated with several professionals in the field of planning, addressing the requirements of cities and municipalities such as Comprehensive Land Use Plans with focus on mainstreaming DRR/ CCA, Comprehensive Development Plans, Urban Master Plan, Tourism Master Development Framework, and the like. With reference to academic work, her passion for research has led her to participate actively and to organize seminars and conferences here and abroad, delivering papers related to architecture, urban planning, disaster management and climate change adaptation, and giving lectures organized by the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP). ENCINAS, uap Had over twenty-nine (29) years of experience in almost all facets of architecture, project management, and corporate management across a wide range of projects including physical planning, architectural design of government & private offices, and commercial, residential, industrial, and transportation-related projects all over the Philippines. Had been the Project Director, Project Manager, Project Architect, and Architect-of-Record responsible for various major construction and facilities projects throughout the Philippines, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Republic of Maldives, and Republic of Seychelles. Most outstanding contribution in the field of architecture, was my 17-years dedication in uplifting the quality of education and alleviating the conditions of the deprived, disadvantaged and depressed public elementary & secondary schools in the remote barangays of the archipelago through designing, quality control and construction supervision of effective school facilities that are properly site-adopted, built under quality construction procedures, with a certain level of typhoon-resistance and durable compared to the normal government school buildings which are designed to serve as places for refuge during natural calamities. Unique management skills had motivated my colleagues in the UAP Legaspi Chapter to actively participate in its planned projects for the organization during my term as Chapter President in 1989. My administration paved the way for the Chapter to gain the Most Outstanding Chapter award the following year. I continued to radiate my trustworthiness when unanimously elected as District Director of then Regional District-9 covering the chapters of San Pablo, Lucena, Camarines and Legaspi in 1990. It was during my term that the first UAP Conference of Architects was successfully held in Legaspi City. Was also instrumental in establishing the United Architects of the Philippines Sorsogon Kasanggayahan Chapter as a Charter Member. Contributed to the academe as a part-time Professorial Lecturer in the Bicol University and Aquinas University of Legaspi through unselfish sharing of actual professional experiences with students in the various architectural subjects taught from 1986 to 1991. 61

She facilitates sustainable design solutions which address aesthetic and practical concerns, blending architecture, landscape and civil engineering, on assignments both in the USA and Asia. She is an expert in natural resource management, waterfront and mobility-oriented development (MODe). Ame M. Engelhart Director, East Asia Office Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP Ame Engelhart is an accomplished architect and urban designer focused on the design of cities, districts, and large, complex architectural projects. Based in Hong Kong since 1993 she extensive experience in China and SE Asia. Working with SOM since 1999, she has been collaborating with multi-disciplinary design teams on large scale mixed use developments and urban districts. Ame creatively addresses challenges and opportunities emerging from established and developing cities in Asia. Trained in architecture and urban planning, Ame brings together the design skills and ambitions of both disciplines to develop holistic plans for urban centers and communities. She is dedicated to promoting the fundamental principles of livability and sustainability, and approaches each design project with respect to the unique social, economic, environmental and geographic conditions inherent in each city and site. He is the managing director of PDW (PT PandegaDesainWeharima/Planning and Development Workshop) urban design and architecture firm in. He has 20 years experience practicing in Indonesia and Australia. Prasetyoadi is certified architect (Indonesia Architects Association) and planner (Planning Institute of Australia), he is also one of the founder of Green Building Council Indonesia. He is recently country leader of Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat in Indonesia. Abstract: Next Level - Public Transport & Density Jakarta, with more than 10 million populations, has grown rapidly since 1970s. However, it the metropolitan area, Jabodetabek (consists of 14 municipalities) has more than 28 million population sprawling into the area of 6,000km2. The main problem of Jakarta metropolitan area is the lack of public infrastructure, one of them is public transport. Jakarta doesn t have adequate public transport and mass rapid transport. The Governor, inaugurated in October 2012, restarted two most important transport infrastructure projects, Jakarta MRT and Jakarta Monorail (private investment). These new infrastructures will provide development opportunity to Jakarta s future. These are the basic infrastructure that should have been built 30 years ago as the city now is in dire need of proper transportation infrastructure. The paper will discuss the opportunities and challenges, as the result of the investment in infrastructure. The private investor is aiming to benefit from air rights development from the monorail station that will serve Jakarta s CBD, connecting the city from east to west. The new typology of real estate is also expected to enrich Jakarta s skyline. The progress of the infrastructure project will also be discussed as the Jakarta government is also investing on elevated bus rapid transit infrastructure. SEMINAR SPEAKERS David Chan & MunInn Chan Design Collective Architects (DCA) together with their associate interior design practice Essential Design Integrated (EDI) are a young and vibrant architectural practice based in Malaysia, whose projects thrive on the close collaboration between architects, interior designers, landscapers and home owners. DCA s design philosophy focuses on the issues and processes concerning customization, creating BESPOKE architecture. As a practice, DCA is process based. The process begins with accumulating a synthesis of site, programme and people. The source of inspiration for a house normally comes from a special relationship between DCA, their clients and their clients relationship with their personal circumstances. This presentation will address issues concerning the complexity of home owner requirements today which extends beyond the simple need of just having shelter. It also explores the resurgence of the multi functional homes. 63

Peter Mould, life fellow, aia, uia UAP NATCON 41 Peter Mould was NSW Government Architect from 2006 to 2012. He has over 40 years experience in Australia and overseas in both the private sector and government. Peter is currently a member of the City of Sydney Design Advisory Panel, the Victorian Design Review Panel, the South Australian Capital City Design Review Panel, the Sydney Olympic Park Design Review Panel, the Sydney Opera House Eminent Architects Panel, the Sydney Opera House Conservation Council, the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct Committee and is Chair of the Built Environment Advisory Committee, UNSW. He regularly sits on design juries for competitions and projects in Australia and New Zealand. He has served on NSW Heritage Council and chaired its Approvals Committee, the Central Sydney Planning Committee, and was Deputy President of the NSW Architects Registration Board. His projects have received numerous awards for architecture, urban design and adaptive reuse. His experience is in the design, documentation and construction of major public architectural and urban design projects. He writes and lectures on architecture with a particular interest in Islamic Architecture. Peter is a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects, former Vice President of the NSW Chapter and was Visiting Professor at the Faculty of the Built Environment, University of NSW 2009-2012. Mohammed Khamis Munyanya, fellow, aak, uia Ar. Mohammed Khamis Munyanya holds a Bachelors Degree of Architecture from the University of Nairobi. He has a vast experience in working with several firms. These include the Adventis Inhouse Africa Ltd (AIA) and Symbion International as an architect before rising to be an Associate of the firm from 1999 to 2002. He has also worked as an architect at the Plence International and Conte Designs. Ar. Munyanya was likewise an Assistant Lecturer at the Kenya Polytechnic between 1990 and 1991. He has held several positions in the Architectural Association of Kenya, from the Hon. Secretary in 1999 to Chairman in 2005. He was also concurrent Secretary General and Treasurer of the East Africa Institute of Architects from 2004 to 2005 and President of the Institute from 2006 to 2007. Ar. Munyanya became treasurer of the Africa Union of Architects form 2005 to 2011 and from 2008 to present, is a Council Member of the International Union of Architects. 64

Gaddis & Associates, Oakland, US from 1984 to 1985 and the Bull, Volkmann & Stockwell, San Francisco, US from 1985 to 1986, all as Junior Architect. While working, Ar. Tae continued to pursue his studies and secure his degree in Master of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley in 1985. Reyes served as the National President of the United Architects of the Philippines for the Fiscal Year 2002 2003. She was the former Chairman of the Architects Regional Council Asia and is an APEC Architect. She is the Chairman of ASEAN Architects Council, an Honorary Fellow of American Institute of Architects and a Member of the UAP College of Fellows. In the past year she was the UAP Likha Awardee. Ar. He was instrumental in establishing the College of Architecture and Fine Arts at the Aquinas University of Legazpi City, serving as its first Dean from 1982 to 1985, and served two (2) more terms in 1989 to 1997. His greatest achievement is having mentored more than 200 practising Architects in the Bicol Region, all over the country and abroad especially in Asia and the Middle East. He is an active member of the United Architects of the Philippines. Also served as a UAP Chapter President twice, in 1980 and 1987, and was on the National Board as District Director in 1984. In 2005, he was appointed as a member of the Nominations Committee and as Chairperson of the UAP COMELEC. He has been awarded and conferred as Fellow of UAP and as Member Emeritus of the organization Design, Landscape, Fine Arts and Environmental Planning Education of the Commission on Higher Education. She was bestowed the Design Excellence Awardee for her project: Caleruega Chapel and Dominican Retreat House in Nasugbu, Batangas. Ar. Reyes is a member of the Professional Regulatory Board of Architecture and a Council Member for Region 4 of the Union Internationale des Architectes, representing Asia, Australia and New Zealand. 4. Rosal received his degree of Bachelor of Science in Architecture from National University in 1985 and Executive Masters in Business Administration at the International Academy of Management and Economics. He has been a versatile, staunch, knowledgeable, and respected voice on advocacy issues that are of critical import to architects and others in the design and construction industry at the national, and local levels. In more than two decades of service in UAP until the time when he became UAP National President for Fiscal Year 2012-2014, he made his mantra the positioning of architects as the authoritative source on the built environment. Ar. Rosal never rested on his accomplishments, but rather has been spurred forward because of them, confronting new criteria and establishing new parameters within which innovative solutions to the architecture profession could be developed. 5. AR. EDRIC MARCO G. FLORENTINO, fuap, apec ar. He is one of the principal architects and Senior Managing Partner of E. Florentino + Associates (EF+3a) together with his Architect-Father & Architect-Daughter. He & his father, Edilberto F. Florentino developed an innovative building system called Modular Ferro-Concrete System, holding 13 patents & copyrights. He is a registered APEC Architect since 2006 and he became Fellow of UAP in 2002. He was National President of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP-IAPOA) in 2005 to 2007 and was Charter President for 2 years of the Council of the Built & Natural Environment (CBNE). He is the current President of Philippine Federation of Professional Association (PFPA). Ar. Florentino is a bonafide member of the Filipino Inventors Society (FIS) since 2008. He is actively involved in Architects Regional Council ASIA (ARCASIA) and, currently, the Vice President for Zone B for 2013-2014. Ar. REGALA, fuap She has been in public service for 32 years and begun her career as Architect/Planner 2 and has risen from the ranks due to her enormous accomplishments in the National Housing Authority Ar. Regala is the former National Executive Vice President of the United Architects of the Philippines. She is a Member of the Philippine Council for the Architecture Profession and was awarded the UAP Presidential Leadership Awardee in 2012. Ar. Regala is a Member of the UAP College of Fellows and now currently seats as the 24th National President of the United Architects of the Philippines 8. AR. CONSUELO C. BUENCAMINO, uap, aia, ncarb Ar. Buencamino graduated BS Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas in 1980 and passed Licensure in 1981. In 1983, she moved to the United States and in 1992, earned her license to practice Architecture and established Peach Buencamino Architect Inc. In 2009, she returned to the Philippines and established C.C. Buencamino Architect mentoring young talented Architects and working in various pro-bono CSR projects. She is registered with the Florida Board of Architecture, a Certified General Contractor and Certified Residential General Contractor in Florida, a member of Florida Home Builders Association, National Home Builders Association, Southern Building Code Congress International, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP). She is the current Executive Director for the Commission on Professional Practice of the UAP. 9. AR. ROMULO L. REYES, fuap, int l assoc. aia, apec ar. He is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas College of Architecture and attended and studied Design Executive Education Program on Airport Development for the Next 50 Years at Harvard University Graduate School in Boston. Ar. Reyes is a Member of the College of Fellows of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP). Ar, Nuke was a Member of the Board of Architecture from 1975-1978 and was the Acting Chairman Board of Architecture from 1978-1981. He became the Chancellor of UAP College of Fellows from 1979-1980. He has invaluable contribution in the creation of the Architect s National Code 1979 and he spearheaded the upgrading and updating of UAP Document 201 on Pre-Design Services. He played a vital role in the design and planning of government transportation projects, intermodal transit complex (MRT-LRT Station Planning and Design) in Metro Manila, and is noted for his active participation in the regulation of the architectural curriculum and practice. 11. AR. FRANCISCO T. MAÑOSA, fuap, apec ar., fpia, likha awardee Ar. Francisco Bobby Manosa s voice rings clear as a clarion bell in defense of Filipino Architecture. In his professional life, his masterwork is the painstaking creation of a design that can be called Filipino. In his body of works, he demonstrated traditional forms and materials to suit modern building needs and changing lifestyle. For his lifetime of pioneering works, he received several accolades from several organizations Most outstanding Professional of the year as architect in 1996 and as Interior Designer in 2013, the Gawad CCP Award in the field of Architecture, the highest award from the United Architects of the Philippines the Likha Award, among many others. For his greatest contribution to the welfare of the future architects aside from his lecture series he published two books Designing Filipino the Architecture of Francisco Manosa; and Beyond the Bahay Kubo. 12. AR. WILLIAM V. COSCOLLUELA, uap, fpia A top Philippine architect, William V. Coscolluela has been leading his firm WVCA in 5 decades of advocating for best practices in all his many projects, as well as in his other advocacy initiatives. His outstanding quality of leadership goes beyond architecture as confirmed by many global, regional & local awards & recognition including the most prestigious President's Gold Medal for Architecture - a recognition given by Mapua Institute of Technology only to 2 awardees thus far. His Platinum LEED Zuellig Building in Makati City is now a multi-awarded landmark in the Central Business District. 13. AR. EDILBERTO F. FLORENTINO, fuap, apec ar., likha awardee Architect, Environmental planner, Arbitrator- Mediator and inventor of 13 approved patents, Ar. Florentino is a principal of E. Florentino 3+ Associates. He was cited Outstanding Mapuan in 1992 and attended post-graduate course at University of the Philippines on structural sciences. Ar. Florentino was chosen as the Outstanding Professional in 1992 and member of the PRC Board of Architecture in 1993. In 2006 he was bestowed the Likha Gold Medal, the highest award given by UAP to a member. 14. AR. ROGELIO G. VILLAROSA, fpia, uap In July 1954, Ar. Villarosa passed the examination for architects as First Place Topnotcher. He is backed by several years of skills development and fifty years of professional practice. At 80 years of age, he is still engaged in a wide scope of projects ranging from simple structures to more complex projects such as hotels, hospitals, high-rise residential condominiums, commercial, institutional, and industrial structures, socio-cultural and community centers and resort complex. 15. AR. CARMELO T. CASAS, uap Ar. Casas earned his degree in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas in 1976, placing 7th in overall ranking in the 1978 Architects Licensure Examination on the same year. He joined Eric Cumine Associates in Hong Kong and thereafter joined Palmer & Turner (HK) in 1980 as Design Architect. He joined Architects Hawaii Far East (AHFE) in 1985. In October 1988, he joined Arch. Jose Pedro Recio in forming a partnership called Recio+Casas Architects which lasted for 20 years. In 1997, the firm was awarded the first "Firm of the Year" award by the Philippine Institute of Architects for its creating a dynamic impact on the Architectural scene of the country. In September 2008, the firm was officially demerged and Casas+Architects was officially born.

16. AR. JOSE PEDRO C. RECIO, fpia, uap He is the principal of Architects Inc., a local practice that began in 2008. He graduated from the College of Architecture at the University of Sto. Tomas in 1975, and pursued his professional career in Hong Kong immediately after. Since 1988, he was a partner in Recio+Casas, and subsequently pursued his solo career in 2008. His practice is currently involved in a variety of project types, ranging from hospitality to insititional design work. 19. AR. JOSE RAMON P. CARUNUNGAN, fuap, piep Cited for their innovative approach to Planning and Designing which empowers people to participate in the design process, Ar. CATHERINE BALCE CARUNUNGAN, fuap She is Principal Architect of Carunungan & Partners company, an architectural firm that has been in existence for more than 25 years in which she has her husband Architect Jose Ramon Carunungan as partner. AR. ABELARDO M. TOLENTINO, JR., fuap He is the President and CEO of Aidea Philippines, Inc. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture, he spent nine years in Hong Kong working in prestigious architectural firms such as HOK Asia Pacific and John Lei Architects, Ltd. His firm Aidea has consistently ranked among the top 100 Architectural practices in the world for the past 5 years - coming in 63rd in 2014. ROBERT MIRAFUENTE, fuap He initially studied architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, USA, then graduated with a bachelor of science in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas, and finally had his master s degree at the University of Sydney in Australia. Since then, he has worked in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines. He has contributed many years of service to several professional organizations, that include Charter President of the Architects Alumni Association Batch 83 of UST, Past President of the UAP Fort Bonifacio Chapter, Conference Director of the 31st UAP National Convention and the 1st Construction Exhibition and Conference Director of the Green Forum in the years 2004, 2007, and 2013. Ar. Mirafuente is one of the pioneers in the practice of green architecture in the Philippines. He helped found advocacy organizations such as the Green Architecture Movement of the United Architects of the Philippines in 2002, and the Green Architecture Advocacy Philippines in 2009.

27. AR. MARIA NINA BAILON-ARCE, fuap She is the Senior Partner at Arce-Bailon-Arce Architect Ar. Arce won the National & International Competitions as a student, was a consistent scholar and Dean s Lister and Rector s Awardee. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Santo Tomas in 1981 and placed Top 5 at the PRC Board Exams in July 1983. She worked with F.F.Cruz & Co., Inc. for 16 years. With service in mind, she volunteers for the Girl Scouts of the Philippines Real Properties & Buildings Committee since 2000 and was elected member of the GSP National Board for Triennium 2012-2015, She was appointed in various positions in the UAP Balangkasan and was President of the UAP Manila Atelier Chapter in 1997-1998. 29. AR. MARIANO S. ARCE, JR., fuap Ar. Arce is a Member of the College of Fellows of the United Architects of the Philippines. He received his bachelor s degree at the University of Sto. Tomas in 1981. He taught in the College of Architecture from 1986 to 2000. In 1987, he established his own architectural design firm Arce-Bailon-Arce Architects with his college classmate and lovely wife, Arch. Ma. Nina Bailon-Arce where he assumes the position of Managing Partner ever since. He is also active in the Church Community where he and his wife belong and became the National Coordinating Couple of the Worldwide Marriage Encounter in 2003-2005. He currently resides and works in Quezon City with their three children, two of whom are licensed architects who work with their firm. 30. AR. PAMELA NANTES AMADOR, fuap From her humble beginnings, being raised by both government employees in a family of seven, she graduated Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila in 1980. Her career started at the National Housing Authority and molded her into a service-oriented professional. Public service shifted to private practice with her husband Ar. Zoilo Joaquin Jack Amador. She also found herself active in the United Architects of the Philippines. 28. AR. GUILLERMO H. HISANCHA, fuap, apec ar. He is a Fellow of the UAP and was conferred as an APEC Architect. He was awarded as One of the Most Outstanding Men of Iloilo in 2011 and University of San Agustin s Most Outstanding Alumni Achievement Awardee in the Field of Architecture this year. Ar. Hisancha specializes in Hospital Planning and Design and currently, he is doing the upgrading of 11 District Hospitals and the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Iloilo. Interestingly, he has been an elected Government Official for five consecutive terms as Municipal Councilor twice and three-time Vice Mayor of the Municipality of Pavia, Iloilo. 31. AR. MARIA ELENA B. CARLOS- CAYANAN, fuap She was architectural designer to Luis Ma. Araneta, and Associates and Assistant to the principal architect at Cresenciano C. de Castro and Associates. Further on, with her husband, she did interior architecture and fabricate furniture as an entrepreneur, at the same time teaching at the Philippine School of Interior Design, then at Far Eastern University Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts, then at the University of Santo Tomas College of Architecture until she retired in 2009. She believes that education is a lifetime endeavour. Ar. Cayanan graduated BS Architecture at Mapua Institute of Technology in 1964, earned a Master in Architecture degree in 2003 and is now pursuing her Dissertation for a PhD, both at the University of Santo Tomas.She has published scholarly researches in journals and awaits publication of Philippine pioneer architects' biography book. His numerous achievements continue to inspire him to give back to society thru dedicated service to UAP, Red Cross, the Church, and other civic organizations. Truly an epitome of a true and committed professional Ar. Ang is a member of the UAP College of Fellows and an APEC Architect. 33. AR. JOSE THOMAS BELDIA, fuap He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in 1973 and became a member of the United Architects of The Philippines in the same year. He was then elevated to the College of Fellows in 1999. During the early years of his career, he focused mainly on developing innovations in building systems, allowing his structures to be more cost-efficient without sacrificing quality and aesthetics. Later on, he shifted his attention to one of the most evident environmental concerns in our world today: global warming. Since then, he has dedicated many years of his professional practice towards researching and developing new design solutions which are geared towards creating structures that are truly green, and will help alleviate the effects of global warming in the world. Some of his design solutions have already been successfully implemented in his recently completed projects, while others are being tested out in ongoing projects 34. AR. MELENCIO DAVID F. MANALO, fuap Ar. Manalo is one of the Pioneer Graduates of University of the Assumption College of Architecture in Pampanga, Class 1986 He has been in practice for 27 years and specializes in residential and hospitality projects He is also the second reciepient of UAP Angeles City Chapter, Architect Par Excellence Award (APEX) 2012, the highest award given to chapter members. Ar. Manalo was two time district director 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and UAP National Vice President for Area A 2011-2012. Tablizo is dedicated public servant committed to deliver and share his expertise in architectural and interior planning, project management and evaluation, construction arbitration in both government service as NBI Architect and in private practice. He is also noted for contributing immensely towards the upliftment of the profession, transcending beyond professional practice as exemplified by his active participation in the crafting of the IRR of the RA 9266 (Architecture Law of 2014) and the amendments of the Architects National Code balanced by his equally great contribution to the furtherance of the ideals and growth of the NBI as Technical working group member in crafting the proposed NBI Modernization Bill. 36. AR. BANJAMIN K. PANGANIBAN, JR., fuap Ar. Benjamin Kimpo Panganiban Jr., is the Principal Architect of BK Panganiban Jr., Architects whose firm, based in southern Mindanao, focuses on Design and Build services. He has been in the architectural and construction practice since 1985 and is also the President and CEO of Bri- Ben Home Trends Inc. which specializes in importing Finishing Construction Materials within and outside of the ASEAN region. 37. AR. JEMMA L. SAROL-SEMAÑA, fuap Ar. Semaña promoted the profession thru her exemplary works on major residential and institutional projects of the city, establishing a trend towards appreciation of architectural fineness in building homes and structures. Her projects exude quality and excellence regardless of scale. A well-respected leader in the Architectural Professional Organization, Ar. Semaña has steered her colleagues in Cagayan de Oro City in making their Local Chapter among the best achievers of UAP. Her term as Vice President for Area D was marked with strong Mindanao participation in the National Organization. 38. AR. LORA B. RIVERA, fuap She is currently the Department Manager III of Facilities and Office Services Department of the Home Development Mutual Fund. She is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas and currently is the president for the College of Architecture Alumni Association. She had her post-graduate diploma on construction management and technology from the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies in The Netherlands. She is a fellow of the United Architects of the Philippines and is the immediate past National Executive Vice President. Her field of expertise is on the following Specialized Architectural Services: Project Management; Construction Management; Building Administration and Facilities Management for office buildings, and property appraisal of residential subdivision projects and condominium building projects. 39. AR. ERNESTO ANTONINO D. NASOL, fpia, apec ar. The principal architect and owner of EAD Nasol Architects Interior Designers, Ar. Nasol is an achiever in his own right based on awards and recognition he gained and garnered in the profession. He is also an APEC Registered Architect, Fellow-Philippine Institute of Architects, 2008 Adolfo Benavidez Awardee, former President of the Philippine Institute of Architects, Member of the Professional Regulatory Board of Interior Design, 1987. He is the former 2nd Vice President of the Confederation of Filipino Consulting Organization (COFILCO), an accredited umbrella organization of Filipino consulting firms by the Government Procurement Policy Board (GPPB). AR. ANGEL L. LAZARO, JR. fuap, apec ar. He is a true builder, both a Civil Engineer and an Architect. He has, for the last 62 years, designed and led the construction of several structures that have served the needs of the society. He has taught in the university, passing on to students both the knowledge of a scholar and the wisdom of a well-seasoned practitioner. He has helped found and for a long time, led the United Architects of the Philippines. In 1938, he organized a team of professionals to form the ALA, Angel Lazaro and Associates. As a young man he exhibited the virtues of discipline, diligence and dedication to his aspirations. He graduated valedictorian of his class in 1934 and he has topped the licensure examinations for both Civil Engineering in 1938 and Architecture in 1962. He has taken this same zeal for excellence to his work as could be evidenced by the numerous awards and recognitions given to him by his peers.
