1 REIQ Real Estate Agent s Licence Course for Griffith University Students comprising 19 Units of Competency from the Property Services Training Package (CPP07) Take the opportunity to earn while you learn apply for your real estate agent s licence and start working in the property industry while you complete your degree. Alternatively, study and apply for your real estate agent s licence now, and be job ready when you complete your degree. In 2017, there are three options for Griffith University students to undertake their full Real Estate Agent s Licence course studies with REIQ, and receive a subject credit towards their Bachelor of Business (Real Estate and Property Development). Please note that enrolments at the special price of $1500 as detailed in this information sheet represent a substantial saving against the full course cost for REIQ s Real Estate Agent s Licensing course (normally $2200), and are only available to students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Business (Real Estate and Property Development). Students enrolment status will be confirmed with Griffith University prior to the enrolment being accepted. Option 1 Contact classes Students may enrol in the licensing course by contact classes conducted at REIQ premises throughout the calendar year. The course is broken into five blocks which run multiple times throughout the year. Classes are available at REIQ s Brisbane and Gold Coast Training Centres. The cost per student is $1500, payable to REIQ payable either up front or you can pay by the month. Contact REIQ for information on how you can set up pay by the month. Attendance at classes is not permitted until the student has enrolled and paid for the course. No refund applies if the student opts to cancel their enrolment part way through their course or within seven days prior to the commencement of the first class. Students cancelling more than seven days prior to the first class commencement date will receive a refund of course fees less a $600 administration fee. Enrolments are not transferable or deferrable. Students may take up to 12 months to complete their studies. Any assessments not submitted within the 12 month period will attract late marking fees of $30 per unit or reissue fees of $50 per unit where materials have changed. Option 2 Self-paced Online study at any time in the year Students may enrol in the Real Estate Agent s Licensing course online, with enrolment available at any stage throughout the year. Students are allocated a tutor to provide guidance by and phone throughout the course. Students have the option of completing the study at their own pace. Students are provided with a completion timeframe of 12 months from the date of enrolment. The cost per student is $1500, payable either up front or you can pay by the month. Contact the REIQ for information on how you can set up pay by the month. All assessments are to be submitted within 12 months from the date of enrolment. After this time, a $50 per month access fee applies to reinstate your access to the student portal. No refunds are made on enrolments once online access has been provided. 2 Entry requirements Other than a current enrolment in the Bachelor of Business (Real Estate and Property Development), there are no pre requisites for this course. It is specifically designed for people working, or wishing to work, in the real estate industry. A real estate agent s licence is mandatory for owners or managers of a real estate agency and those wishing to work independently or contract their services. It is also considered a valuable career asset for salespeople, property managers, developers, business brokers or commercial property specialists. 5 Qualification/Learning Outcome The REIQ Real Estate Agent s Licence course comprises 19 units of competency from Certificate IV level in the Property Services Training Package (CPP40307). It fulfils the educational requirements of the Property Occupations Act 2014 for real estate licence holders. A Queensland real estate licence will entitle the holder to own or manage a real estate agency in Queensland, or to act as an independent contractor in the real estate industry. It is also considered a valuable career asset for salespeople, property managers, developers, business brokers or commercial property specialists, and will enhance and progress career development for all real estate professionals. A Certificate IV in Property Services requires the study of 24 units of competency. Should students wish to enrol in the additional five units to achieve their Certificate IV qualification, these units are available by both contact classes and online study. Simply contact REIQ for further details on this option. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer The REIQ has a structured process for providing RPL to students participating in the Real Estate Agent Licence program. An information sheet on RPL is available that describes the process and includes an RPL application form. If you have previously completed any of the competencies listed in the Real Estate Agent Licence program through the REIQ or any other registered training organisation, then the REIQ may provide you a cross credit, or credit transfer against these units. In some circumstances, real estate units undertaken in other states will also attract credit transfers, depending on legislative content. 6 The course itself was excellent. Each module covered a different aspect of the real estate industry ranging from various sales tactics, property management, legal requirements, all the way through to preparation of various contracts. At the end of the nineteen modules, I felt that my knowledge of the industry had grown immensely. Not only had my understanding increased, but I also felt confident that my newly gained skills could lead me into a successful career. After completing my degree, I was quickly employed by a property development company. I recall that at the beginning of my first meeting with the company, the interviewer made clear that one major point of difference between me and the other candidates was that I was eligible to apply for a full Real Estate Licence. The interviewer felt that this was an invaluable tool to have and encouraged me to apply for the license right away (which I am currently in the process of doing). I would highly recommend anyone who was considering a career in the real estate industry or any other similar field, to enrol in the Real Estate License training course offered by the REIQ. The course is run extremely well, the facilitators are excellent and the knowledge one can gain is simply invaluable. On completion of this course, I am now completely aware of the dangers and legal aspects that may arise, the importance of a successful marketing campaign in the sales process, and the business side of sales right from the level of sales assistant through to the role of Principal Licensee, and the responsibilities and knowledge required for this role. This knowledge is highly beneficial. The classes were highly informative and well structured to assist us with what we were expected to learn, and how we are to apply this in the real world. The delivery and assessment method of learning a module in class, then completing the workbook over the next week kept the knowledge fresh in our minds, and the repetition immediately after learning helped to concrete the information in our minds.
